February 11, 2012 Men's Track and Field sees 4x400 Relay Set Another Record at BU Boston, MA --- The 4x400 relay team of Joey Collins, Stephen Kocienski, Austin Holliday and Kyle Morettcle ocked a school-record 3:17.62 as the Engineers of WPI men’s track and field competed at the 2012 Boston University Valentine Invitational on Saturday. Collins also had a 22.85 in the 200-meter dash, a first-time Division III New England qualifier. His 49.19 in the 400-meter dash was a school record. In the 200-meter dash, Ditton Kawalya clocked a 23.17, another first-time Division III New England qualifier. In the 400-meters, Kocienski finished with a 49.81 while Ryan Shooshan had a 52.30. January 30, 2012 | WPI Weekly Athletics Update #18 Men's Track and Field's 4x400 Relay Team and Women's Swimming and Diving's Nica Sylvia were named WPI Athletes of the Week. The quartet consisting of Joey Collins, Kyle Morette, Stephen Kocienski and Austin Holliday shattered the school record with a time of 3:20.61 and qualified for the Division III New England Championships. Sylvia struck gold in both the 1-meter and 3-meter at UMass Dartmouth and bested Wheaton in a double-dual with Tufts. >>
January 28, 2012 | Men's 4x400 Relay Sets New School Standard at Track's BU Terrier Classic Boston, MA --- The 4x400 relay team set a new school record as WPI Men’s Track and Field participated in the Terrier Classic hosted by Boston University on Saturday, competing against teams from Divisions I, II and III. The squad of Joey Collins, Kyle Morette, Stephen Kocienski and Austin Holliday clocked a time of 3:20.61, qualifying them for the Division III New England Championships. Holliday also qualified in the 200 meter event, recording a 23.22 time. >>
January 27, 2012 | Women's Track and Field Shines at Boston University's Terrier Classic Boston, MA --- Noelle Richard ran a season-best time in both the 200 and 400 meter events and Julie Eagle placed third in the high jump to highlight WPI Women’s Track and Field’s performance Friday at the Terrier Classic host by Boston University. The non-scoring meet featured athletes from Division I, II and III as well as several top-level unattached performers. Freshman Maria Grandoni continued to impress with an ECAC-qualifying time of 3:07.04 in the 1000 meters. >>
January 23, 2012 | WPI Weekly Athletics Update #17 Women's Track and Field's Julie Eagle and Men's Swimming and Diving's Andrew Lybarger have been named WPI Athletes of the Week. Eagle cleared 5-4.75 to win the high jump over the weekend at the Wesleyan Invitational III. The height is currently 11th among Division III competitors. Lybarger swept the 100- and 200-yard butterfly and took the 200-yard freestyle at the Worcester City Championships. >>
January 21, 2012 | Richard and Eagle Strike Gold for WPI Women's Track and Field at Wesleyan Invitational Middleton, CT --- Noelle Richard captured the 200 and 600 meters and Julie Eagle won the high jump to highlight WPI’s performance Saturday at the Wesleyan Invitational III in Middleton, CT. The meet was a non-scoring event. Richard posted a winning time of 26.19 in the 200 and 1:41.07 in the 600. Amira Yusif chipped in with a fourth place showing in the 200 (27.24). Eagle seized the high jump crown with a height of 5-3.75 while Laura Pumphrey was ninth at 4-9.75. >>
January 21, 2012 | Four Second Place Finishes for Men's Track and Field at Wesleyan Invitational Middletown, CT --- The WPI men’s track and field team had a successful day competing in the Wesleyan Invitational on Saturday. Josh Brodin finished second in the 5000 run with a time of 15:49.74. Chris Farren was second in the weight throw, with a distance of 49 feet and three- quarters-of-an-inch. Tristan Richardson had a second place finish in the high jump with a 6 foot, 3.25 inch jump. Kyle Morette was second in the pole vault, with a 15 foot, one inch distance. >>
January 16, 2012 | WPI Weekly Athletics Update #16 Wrestling's Alex Freilich and Women's Track and Field's Noelle Richard have been named WPI Athletes of the Week. Freilich went 3-0 on the week highlighted by a 10-0 major decision against Western New England. Richard raced to a 59.38 in the 400-meter dash at Bowdoin which is currently the third-best time among Division III competitors. >>
January 14, 2012 | Women’s Track and Field Kicks off 2012 at Bowdoin 5-Way Invitational Brunswick, ME --- The WPI Women’s Indoor Track and Field team placed third at the 2012 Bowdoin Invitational on Saturday. Noelle Richard was the top performer for the Crimson and Gray, winning the 200 meter dash (26.47) and the 400 meter dash (59.38). Julie Eagle won the high jump event, putting up a 1.63 meter mark. Amy Babeu had a second place finish in the 3000 meters with a time of 11:16.46. >>
January 14, 2012 | Men’s Track and Field Begins New Year with Second Place Showing at Bowdoin Brunswick, ME --- The WPI Men's Indoor Track and Field team finished second Saturday at the 2012 Bowdoin Invitational. Ben Altshuler qualified for the NCAAs with a 20-5.76 jump in the long jump event, one of several WPI winners on the day. Altshuler also placed third in the triple jump with a 12.57. Stephen Kocienski came in first in the 400 dash with a time of 51.81. Timothy Forrest won the 60 hurdles with an 8.63 time while Kyle Morette was victorious in the pole vault with a 4.30 distance. >>
December 3, 2011 | Trio of Runners Post Wins as Men’s Track and Field Places Second at Springfield Springfield, MA --- Lucas Smith-Horn, Stephen Kociensk0 and Tim Forrest led WPI to a second place finish at the Springfield Invitational. Springfield College won the event while Westfield State, Rhode Island College and Eastern Connecticut State came in third, fourth and fifth, respectively. Smith-Horn came in first in the mile event with a time of 4:38.27. Forrest won the 60-meter hurdle event with a time of 8.74. It is the second consecutive year Forrest has earned a qualifying time at the Springfield Invitational. >>
