Women's Basketball Selected to ECAC Championships
Worcester, MA --- The WPI women's basketball team has earned the second seed in the ECAC Division III New England Championships. The Engineers will host seventh-seeded Nichols on Wednesday at 7pm.
WPI boasts a record of 21-7 and won its first NEWMAC regular seaon title. Head coach Cherise Galasso's squad reached the championship game of the NEWMAC tournament before dropping a hard-fought 51-46 decsion to Mount Holyoke on Sunday afternoon.
Nichols enters the contest with a record of 17-10. Oddly enough, the two schools have not met since the 2003-2004 season despite both participating at the past two Worcester City Tournaments.
Wednesday's winner will face either third-seeded Endicott or sixth-seeded Castleton State on Friday in a semifinal. Other partcipants include top-seeded Colby-Sawyer, four-seeded Wheaton, fifth-seeded Suffolk and eighth-seeded Rhode Island College. The championship game is slated Saturday with the better seeded team hosting each round.
