Box Score

Worcester, MA --- Sophomore Serena Dubois (Bangor, ME) had a career-high 18 points and tied a career-best 15 rebounds to lead the WPI women's basketball team to a 68-54 victory over Wesley College in the opening game of the eighth annual WPI Invitational presented by Hilton Garden Inn.

WPI (3-4) led by as many as 11 (20-9) on a lay-up by Dubois at the 11:39 mark of the first half.  Stephanie Bailey's (Kensington, MD) jumper capped a 9-4 run to bring Wesley within four (20-24).  The two teams traded baskets over the next 3:29 until Kaileen Selen (Worcester, MA) drained a deep three to stifle the visitors' momentum and give WPI a 32-23 advantage.  The hosts went on to take an eight point edge (33-25) into the break.

Selen sparked the Engineers offense in the opening seconds of the second frame with a dagger trey for a 36-25 lead. WPI went on an 8-4 stretch highlighted by three-pointers from Caitlin Macko (Cromwell, CT and Kate Maki (Fitchburg, MA) to lead by 13 (45-32) with 12:30 left.

Wesley made it interesting after a three from Bailey closed the gap to five (44-49), but WPI outscored the visitors 15-8 over a 4:30 span to put the game out of reach.

Macko and Selen finished with 11 and 10 points, respectively, for WPI.  Colleen Thomas (Howell, NJ) led Wesley (4-5) with 12 points while Bailey chipped in with 11 points.

WPI advances to Monday's championship game where they will face the winner of the Keene State College/Curry College game at 3pm.  Wesley will take part in the consolation contest Monday at 1pm.
