Wesley Beats Curry 70-55 in WPI Invitational Consolation Game

Worcester, MA --- Freshman Angie Owens (Seaford, DE) had a double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds to lead Wesley College to a 70-55 victory over Curry College in the consolation game of the WPI Holiday Invitational presented by Hilton Garden Inn at Harrington Auditorium on Monday afternoon.  Wesley evens up at 5-5, while Curry drops to 3-6 overall.

Freshmen Latasha Torres (Sharon Hill, PA) scored 16 points and Cory Boyd (Point Pleasant, NJ) dished out a game-high 10 assists for Wesley. 

Both teams struggled from the field in the first half. Curry shot 29.2%, while Wesley finished with a 28.6% clip. However, Wesley turned it on late in the frame, outscoring Curry 15-7 over the final 6:44 to take a 30-21 halftime lead.  Five different players scored for the Wolverines during the uprising.  

Wesley took control of the game early in the second half. The Wolverines went on a 12-5 burst to stretch the margin to 43-26. Torres had seven points during the run.  Boyd's jumper gave Wesley its largest lead of the day (61-35), but Curry used a 12-3 run to close the gap to 66-50 on a pair of free throws from Christina Sancinito (Wakefield, MA).  However, the Colonels could get no closer. 

Curry, which shot just 26.8% in the game, outrebounded Wesley, 55-45.

Junior Sarah Walker (Colchester, VT) led Curry with 15 points, while Danyel Cousins (Brunswick, ME) added 10.  Sancinito chipped in with a game-best 13 boards - 11 defensively.
