Women's Basketball Takes ECAC Holiday Title with Win over Neumann

Kissimmee, FL --- Tournament MVP Elle Fontaine (Franklin, MA) collected 18 points and grabbed a game-high eight rebounds to help WPI defeat Neumann (PA) 69-57 to capture the Bracket C championship of the ECAC Holiday Festival in Kissimmee, Fl on Sunday morning.   With the win, the Engineers improve to 8-4 on the season while Neumann dips to 7-4. 

For the second consecutive game, the Crimson and Gray shot over 50.0% from the field.  Fontaine canned 7-of-11 from the floor while Kaileen Selen (Worcester, MA) drained 8-of-12 shots en route to also tallying 18 points.   

Serena Dubois (Bangor, ME) added 13 points for the Engineers while point guard Natasha Deschene (Presque Isle, ME) registered nine points to go along with a game-best seven assists.  Caitlin Macko (Cromwell, CT) chipped in with eight points as WPI starters accounted for 63 of its 67 points on the day. 

Tied at 22 late in the first half, the Engineers rattled off seven straight points, including five from Selen, to take a lead they would not relinquish.  

Krista DiRomualdo (Eddystone, PA) paced Neumann with 14 points while Katie Young (Wilmington, DE) tossed in 12.  Caitlin Agnew (Philadelphia, PA) led the Knights charge off the bench with nine points and seven boards. 

WPI begins NEWMAC conference action on Wednesday when they travel to defending ECAC New England champion Coast Guard.  Tip-off is slated for 5:30pm.  Neumann returns to Colonial States Athletic Conference play on Saturday, hosting tri-leader Gwynedd-Mercy at 2pm.
