Selen Nets NEWMAC Women's Basketball Player of the Week Honor

Kaileen Selen

Babson Park, MA --- WPI junior Kaileen Selen (Worcester, MA) has been selected NEWMAC Women's Basketball Player of the Week for the week ending February 22nd.  The guard averaged 14 points per game as the Engineers won a pair of contests last week and in the process captured their second NEWMAC regular season title in the last three years.

Selen was also one of five players named to the weekly honor roll by the New England Women's Basketball Association (NEWBA).

Selen's 16 points highlighted four different WPI players in double figures to help propel the Crimson and Gray to a hard-fought 60-56 win over Babson. She added six rebounds, two assists and a pair of steals in the triumph. She closed her week by tallying 12 points and swiping a game-best five steals in a 72-48 home victory over MIT.

It is the fourth time this season that a WPI player has been honored by the NEWMAC.  Classmate Serena Dubois (Bangor, ME) took home Player of the Week accolades on January 19th and 26th and again on February 16th.  Selen was also named WACBA Player of the Week as a sophomore back in January of 2008.

WPI opens play in the NEWMAC Tournament on Wednesday.  Top-seeded WPI hosts eighth-seeded Mount Holyoke at 7pm.  A win would allow WPI the right to host the tournament semifinals and championship this weekend.
