Hannmann Paces Balanced Attack to Help Women's Basketball Beat Southern Vermont

Worcester, MA --- Lauren Hannmann (East Greenbush, NY) tossed in a career-high 15 points and Serena Dubois (Bangor, ME) and Natasha Deschene (Presque Isle, ME) each added 10 to help propel host WPI to a 85-41 win over Southern Vermont in non-conference women's basketball action on Tuesday evening.  With the result, both teams see their records even at 2-2.

The Engineers started the game by scoring 19 of the first 21 points during the opening seven minutes of action.  The Crimson and Gray then used a late 16-0 spurt to help take a 42-11 advantage into the locker room at the intermission.  Balance was the theme of the first half as seven different players scored between four and eight points.  The WPI defense was also a key, forcing 14 first half turnovers and converting them into 14 points.

WPI shot an impressive 55.9% from the floor and dished out 22 assists on the night.  Kaileen Selen (Worcester, MA), Ally Stoyle (Pembroke, MA) and Baillie McNally (Mapleville, RI) all added eight points with the latter two posting career-bests.  Hannmann nearly collected her first double-double, pacing the Engineers with nine rebounds.

Julia Fagan (New Britain, CT) led the way for the Mountaineers, notching her fourth double-double in as many games  The sophomore netted 11 points and gobbled up a game-best 10 boards.  Joa Claircius (Clermont, FL) and Alyssa Davis (West Burke, VT) both chipped in with 11 points each for Southern Vermont.

WPI is back in action on Sunday when they venture to Providence, RI to take on Johnson & Wales.  Southern Vermont is off until next Tuesday at 6pm when they travel to St. Joseph (VT) for the second game of a four game road trip.
