Catholic Takes Third in WPI Invitational with 91-39 Win Over UMaine-Machias

Catholic 91, UMaine-Machias 39
Worcester, MA --- Brianna Peterson
(Garnerville, NY) netted a game-best 27 points, including her
team’s first 14 of the game in Catholic’s 91-39 victory
over Maine Machias in the consolation game of the WPI Holiday
Invitational presented by Hilton Garden Inn. With the result,
Catholic ups its record to 7-4 while the Clippers dip to
2-8.
Peterson connected on 11-of-18 shots from the floor and tallied 23
of her 27 points in the first half. It marked the fifth time
this season that the sophomore collected 25 or more points in a
game. All 16 players who dressed for the Cardinals dented the
scoring column. Joining Paterson in double figures was
classmate Jenn Canale (Valley Cottage, NY), who
netted 10 points.
The Cardinals proved opportunistic as they parlayed 28 steals into
44 points off turnovers. Catholic dished out 22 assists on 36
field goals, led by Christina Rogers (Monmouth
Beach, NJ) and Kerri Confrey (Pearl River, NY) who
were credited with five and four
respectively.
Talaya Woodall (Bensalem, PA) paced the Clipper
attack with 14 points while Jennie Hare (New
Limerick, ME) chipped in with 12 and Kayla Wood
(East Machias, ME) added nine. Hare highlighted four Maine
Machias players with five or more rebounds by grabbing eight boards
on the day. She shared game-high rebounding honors with
Catholic’s Canale.
Catholic returns to the hardwood on Saturday, hosting Richard
Stockton in a 7pm contest. Maine Machias plays its tenth of
18 straight games away from home when they venture to the
University of Prince Edward Island (Canada) on Sunday for a 5pm
tilt.
