Dedication of "Niffer" Highlights Crew's Alumni Regatta
Worcester, MA --- A record crowd of over 300 people attended the WPI Men's and Women's Crew Alumni Regatta and Picnic held at Lake Quinsigamond this past Saturday. The event was highlighted by the dedication of a new women's four boat, the "Niffer", in memory of Jennifer McLaughlin '06.
Her friends, family, teammates and coaches gathered as the boat was officially christened on a beautiful fall afternoon at the Donahue Rowing Center.
"The turnout for this event was a real tribute to the impact Jen had on so many lives," stated her head coach Jason Steele. "We are honored that her name will forever grace our boathouse."
The races themselves saw over 100 current and former WPI crew athletes participate.
"This was the biggest turnout we have ever had at Alumni Day", commented men's head coach Larry Noble. "By far, the best rowing in the history of the Alumni race".
Both teams will open up their fall intercollegiate schedules this weekend at the Textile City Regatta in Lowell.
