January 21, 2014 | Worcester Polytechnic Institute Names Laurie Leshin as its 16th President Worcester, MA --- After a six-month intensive search, the Board of Trustees of Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) has elected Laurie Leshin, PhD, as the university's 16th president. Over the past 20 years, Leshin, a geochemist and space scientist, established herself as both an academic and administrative leader, having cultivated an impressive career at NASA, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Arizona State University (ASU), and University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). Leshin was selected to lead WPI from an initial candidate pool of approximately 200. >>
December 12, 2013 | NEWMAC to Host NCAA Division III Integration Symposium Boston, MA --- The New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) will conduct an NCAA Division III Integration Symposium on Thursday, December 12 at the Boston Marriott Newton Hotel in Newton, Mass. The symposium will bring together key, institutional partners from across the conference in an effort to discuss ways in which NEWMAC member institutions, individually and collectively, might best support the NCAA Division III philosophy that “a student-athlete’s athletics activities are conducted as an integral part of the student-athlete’s overall educational experience.” >>
October 27, 2013 | Women's Rowing Concludes Fall Season at Head of the Fish Regatta Saratoga Springs, NY --- The WPI Women’s Rowing team wrapped up is fall campaign Saturday at the Head of the Fish Regatta in Saratoga Springs, NY. The varsity eight rowed to a 12th place performance with a time 14:17.16. The second varsity eight turned in a ninth place showing in a time of 15:08.01. October 21, 2013 | WPI Athletes of the Week #8 The Men's and Women's Rowing Varsity Eights were named WPI Student-Athletes of the Week. The boat made up of John Morrissey, Nick Cebry, Kendell Cotton, Alex Barat, Gary Jackson, Matt Foley, Jackson Krupmick, Matt Deptula and coxswain Tyler Collins crossed the finish line 10th while the boat manned by of Liz Audet, Elisabeth Boulanger, Julie Waddell, Brooke Cotta, Maggie Freed, Emily Hofmeister, Anisa Swei, Corre Steele and coxswain Jess Prashaw posted a seventh place finish at the Head of the Charles on Sunday. >>
October 20, 2013 | Women's Rowing Strong at the Head of the Charles Regatta Cambridge, MA --- WPI women’s rowing competed this Sunday in the 49th annual Head of the Charles Regatta. The Crimson and Gray had a pair of boats participate in the collegiate eights as the varsity eight finished seventh and the second varsity eight placed 21st. The varsity eight survived a crash into a bridge that earned another team a penalty to clock a time of 15:58.577. It was the best showing by a NEWMAC boat and the Engineers were also faster than eight-time defending national champion Williams. >>
October 14, 2013 | WPI Athletes of the Week #7 Women's Rowing's Novice Eight and Men's Cross Country's Robert Hollinger were named WPI Student-Athletes of the Week. Nikki Mikolajczak, Victoria Loehle, Zulean Cruz-Diaz, Christina Bottom, Rachel Brown, Audrey Allen, Sarah Bucknam, Huda Gad and coxswain Nicole Quintal teamed up to win the novice race at the Quinsigamond Snake Regatta while Hollinger led the Engineers to a ninth-place finish among Division III teams at the All-New England Championships. >>
October 12, 2013 | Women’s Rowing Second at Quinsigamond Snake Regatta Worcester, MA --- The WPI women’s rowing team took home second place as five boats were entered in the Quinsigamond Snake Regatta on Saturday. The First Varsity Eight consisting of Liz Audet, Elisabeth Boulanger, Julie Waddell, Brooke Cotta, Maggie Freed, Emily Hofmeister, Anisa Swei, Corre Steele and coxswain Jess Prashaw raced to the runner up finish in a time of 16:10.101 and was just under two seconds behind reigning NEWMAC champion Wellesley. >>
October 6, 2013 | Women's Rowing Begins 2013 Fall Season at Textile River Regatta Lowell, MA --- The WPI women's rowing team started its 2013-2014 campaign at the Textile River Regatta in Lowell on Sunday. The Engineers had several strong showings, including a pair of silver medals and a third place showing. The varsity eight claimed a silver medal with a time of 21:50.465 in the club eight while the second varsity eight posted a eighth place finish (23:59.014). >>
