May 11, 2012 Women's Crew Claims a Pair of Petite Finals at ECAC Invitational Worcester, MA --- WPI Women’s Crew continued its strong late season run by winning a pair of petite finals and finishing second in another at the ECAC Invitational on Lake Quinsigamond on Friday. The Crimson and Gray took home wins in the varsity eight and the third varsity eight while the second varsity placed second after an outstanding row in the morning. The varsity eight just missed the grand final as they finished third in the morning heat behind eventual champion Williams and Ithaca (by under 2.5 seconds). Learn more...

April 22, 2012 | Women's Crew Keeps the Bernie Brown Cup for a Second Straight Year Worcester, MA -- For the second consecutive year, the WPI Women’s Crew’s varsity eight captured the Bernie Brown Cup by defeating Tufts on Lake Quinsigamond. The cup win highlighted a race where the Engineers placed third overall in the six-boat event on Sunday morning. Suzanna Kelley, Liz Audet, Caitlin Heindl, Macauley Kenney, Emily Hofmeister, Amy Loomis, Corre Steele, Mary Hesler, and coxswain Emily Johnson recorded a time of 6:53.4 to edge Tufts by a mere 1.8 seconds. >>
April 21, 2012 | Women's Crew Produces Best-Ever NEWMAC Championship Showing Worcester, MA --- The WPI Women’s Crew program placed third overall Saturday at the NEWMAC Championships hosted by Clark on Lake Quinsigamond. The Engineers finished second in the second varsity eight, third in the third varsity eight and fourth in the varsity eight en route to its best-ever finish in the Florence Smith Jope Cup standings. WPI is back in action Sunday morning at Lake Quinsigamond versus Tufts (Bernie Brown Cup) and RIT, Skidmore, William Smith, Washington College and Tufts. >>
April 19, 2012 | Freed and Hofmeister in the Mix for Prestigious Women’s Freshman Rowing Camp Princeton, NJ --- WPI first-year women’s rowers Maggie Freed and Emily Hofmeister have made the wait list for USRowing’s prestigious 2012 Women’s Freshman Camp June 11-17 in Seattle, Washington. The duo are the first Engineers women’s crew team members to earn the status for 12-year head coach Jason Steele. The majority of student-athletes selected were from Division I programs. Other Division III student-athletes include Wellesley coxswain Emma Kaufman. >>
April 14, 2012 | Women's Crew Rows to Three Third Place Showings in Donahue Cup Worcester, MA -- WPI Women’s Crew participated Saturday in the annual Donahue Cup on Lake Quinsigamond. The Engineers collected a trio of third place finishes on a soak-soaked morning along the Worcester-Shrewsbury line. The varsity eight comprised of Amy Loomis, Caitlin Heindl, Maggie Freed, Emily Hofmeister, Macauley Kenney, Brooke Cotta, Liz Audet, Suzanna Kelley, and coxswain Emily Johnson clocked a time of 7:09.31 behind defending nationally champion and top ranked Williams and Simmons but ahead of Franklin & Marshall and Connecticut College. >>
April 9, 2012 | WPI Weekly Athletics Update #28 Women's Crew Third Varsity Eight and Baseball's Sean Minor were named WPI Athletes of the Week. Brianna Gillespie, Ellen Pierce, Denise Yalcin, Kelsey Stergiou, Kellie Dickerson, Liz Hennessey, Lindsay Hock, Sandra Garcia-Fine and coxswain Jess Prashaw struck gold with a 7:20.5 to finish ahead of Wesleyan and Smith. Minor went 2-0 on the week to help the Engineers extend the current winning streak to eight games. >>
April 7, 2012 | Women's Crew Bounces Back with Strong Performances Worcester, MA -- The WPI Women’s Crew team rebounded nicely Saturday to post a pair of second places finishes for its top two boats and a program-first victory in the third varsity race in competition on Lake Quinsigamond. The varsity eight turned in a time of 6:57.9 to place just behind Wesleyan, the second varsity eight (7:15.8) was nipped by Wesleyan by just a half a second. and the third varsity eight won its race for the first time in the varsity era (7:20.5) >>
April 1, 2012 | Women's Crew Begins 2012 Spring Campaign on Lake Quinsigamond Worcester, MA -- The WPI Women’s Crew team kicked off the spring portion of its 2011-2012 schedule on Sunday as it hosted strong regatta on Lake Quinsigamond. The women’s varsity eight race itself featured three schools (Bates, Wellesley and Trinity) that placed boats in the top seven of the 2011 NCAA Division III championships and Division I Holy Cross. WPI's entry of placed sixth with a time of 7:42.0. Bates took gold in a time of 7:13.4, over six seconds clear of Trinity. >>
October 23, 2011 | Back-to-Back Placings for Women's Crew at the Head of the Charles Cambridge, MA --- WPI women’s crew took part in the 2011 Head of the Charles Regatta this past Sunday, competing in the women’s collegiate eight. The second varsity eight, with Dominique Throop, Denise Yalcin, Elisabeth Boulanger, Arianna Niro, SaraBeth Leach, Lindsay Hock, Kristen Schleier, Corre Steele and coxswain Sam O'Connor came in 22nd with a time of 18:49.93. The varsity eight boat took a one minute penalty, coming in with an adjusted time of 18:54.51, good for 23rd place. >>
October 17, 2011 | WPI Weekly Athletics Update #7 Men's Cross Country's Shane Ruddy and Women's Crew's Varsity Eight have been named WPI Athletes of the Week. Ruddy finished fourth at the Western New England Invitational to lead WPI to its second victory this Fall. The Varsity Eight posted a time of 14:47.322 at the Quinsigamond Snake Regatta. Only 2011 NCAA participants Bates and Wellesley finished ahead of the Engineers. >>
October 15, 2011 | Women's Crew's Varsity Eight Earns Bronze at Quinsigamond Snake Regatta Worcester, MA --- WPI Women’s Crew’s A boat picked up a bronze medal Saturday at the Quinsigamond Snake Regatta. The boat comprised of Amy Loomis, Suzanna Kelley, Liz Audet, Caitlin Heindl, Macauley Kenney, Brooke Cotta, Mary Hesler, Lauren Laboissonniere and coxswain Emily Johnson posted a time of 14:47.322, finishing only behind 2011 NCAA second and third place finishers Bates and Wellesley. >>
