Men's Athletes of the Week
Men's Crew - Second Varsity Eight
The Second Varsity Eight of the men's crew team has been named the male athletes of the week for the week of April 28th through May 4th. The Second Varsity Eight combination of Drew Oprea (Hicksville, NY), Berk Birand (Istanbul, Turkey), Jeffrey Onderdonk (Colechester, CT), Nick Vitello (Tolland, CT), Ben Johnson (Northford, CT), Max French (Harwinton, CT), Don Havener (Turner, ME), Evan May (Marshfield, MA) and coxswain Brenna Colleary (Southboro, MA) took home WPI's top finish at the New England Championships to earn the bronze medal for the Crimson and Gray. WPI Crew is scheduled to compete at Saturday and Sunday's ECAC Championships on Lake Quinsigamond.
Women's Athletes of the Week
Women's Crew - Varsity Four
The Varsity Four of the women's crew team has been named the female athletes of the week for the week of April 28th through May 4th. The Varsity Four rowed an outstanding race at last weekend's New England Fours Championships to bring home the silver medal to WPI. The V4 team of Amanda Ruksznis (Sidney, ME), Kyla Bye-Nagel (Hanau, Germany), Bridget Stevens (Cropseyville, NY), Katie Siering (Sheridan, OR) and coxswain Allison DiNitto (Wakefield, MA) combined to post a time of 7:35.30 over the 2000 meter course. Women's Crew is slated to appear at the ECAC Championships on Saturday and Sunday on Worcester's Lake Quinsigamond.

Men’s Outdoor Track and Field
Ben Roy (Buxton, ME) and Jeff
Baker (Wallingford, CT) each finished in second to help
the Engineers to place eighth at the three-day New England Division
III Championships held at Coast Guard Academy. WPI combined to
register 32 points while Williams took home the overall title with
151 points. On the day, WPI picked up nine All-New England honors
(top eight finishes). Roy tallied 6046 points to place second in
the challenging ten-event decathlon and qualify for the NCAA
Championships while Baker tossed the javelin 189-11. Mike
Sacco (Cranston, RI) finished in 19th behind Baker with a
distance of 145-07. Jarrett Arredondo (Somerville,
MA) picked up fifth in the hammer (172-11) before placing seventh
in the shot put (45-1.75) while teammate Fran
Collins (Springfield, MA) finished sixth in the shot
(45-10.75), ninth in the hammer (162) and 15th in the discus
(117-10). Distance runner Chris McCann (Haverhill,
MA) crossed the finish line sixth in the 1500 meter run (3:57.73)
while Kevin Jillson (East Sandwich, MA) and Keith
Flanders (Westford, MA) claimed eighth (9:39.05) and 20th
(10:21.91) in the 3000 meter steeplechase, respectively.
Matija Zelic (Westboro, MA) jumped 20-06.50 to
place seventh in the long jump. Wrapping up the individual events
were Joe Krasinskas (Sutton, MA) in the 400 meter
hurdles (18th; 59.61) and Daniel Duffty
(Haverhill, MA) in the 1000 meter run (33:16.74). In relay action,
the 4 x 100 team of Devin Auclair (Marlboro, MA), Tyson
Nason (Gorham, ME), Shaun Price (Boston,
MA) and Roy combined to earn eighth place (43.98) before the 4 x
400 team of Auclair, McCann, Shaun Tirrell (Burlington, MA) and
Nick Holovnia (Northboro, MA) took home 12th place
(3:30.31). Several members of the men's track team will compete at
the ECAC Championships on May 15th and 16th hosted by Springfield
College.
Women’s Outdoor Track and Field
WPI Women's Track and Field finished 23rd overall at the New England Division III Championships hosted by Coast Guard Academy. Williams was the meet winner with 111 points. Stacy Rudolf (Somers, CT) brought home WPI's top finish, amassing 3191 points to place fifth in the seven event heptathlon. Teammate Amanda Gurnon (Tolland, CT) finished behind Rudolf in tenth place with 2823 points. Krista Baker (Medway, MA) threw a distance of 111-10 to earn seventh in the discus while Meg Murphy (Perkasie, PA) was 18th in the 800 meter run (2:21.79). Liz Schreiber (Ashfield, MA) ran to 26th place in the 400 meter hurdles (1:12.11). Both Rudolf and Gurnon garnered All-New England honors for their outstanding performances. Select members of the women's track team will compete at the ECAC Championships hosted by Springfield College on May 15th and 16th.
Men’s Crew
WPI Men's Crew rowed at the New England Championships Saturday
on Lake Quinsigamond. The second varsity of Drew
Oprea (Hicksville, NY), Berk Birand (Istanbul, Turkey),

Vitello (Tolland, CT), Ben Johnson
(Northford, CT), Max French (Harwinton, CT),

(Southboro, MA) took home WPI's top finish with a time of 6:17.56
in the grand final to earn a third place medal. The varsity eight
combination of Connor McGrath (Troy, NY),
Scott Gary (Lubbock, TX), Neil
Lettenberger (Oakland, ME), Henry Moore
(Jaffrey, NH), Arthur Gager (Kennebunk, ME),
Sebastien Cohn (Orinda, CA), Tobin
McGee (Rye, NY), Andrew Sandefer (New
Orleans, LA) and coxswain Bethany Bouchard
(Nashua, NH) finished fourth in the grand final (6:04.881) in a
race that saw teams second through four separated by just two
seconds. The third eight of Garret Cavanaugh
(Townsend, MA), Evan May (Marshfield, MA),
Drew Domnarski (Pawcatuck, CT), Matt
Kielbasa (Ludlow, MA), Elan Pelletier
(Georgetown, MA), Tom Parenteau (Scarborough, ME),
Andrew Emerson (York, ME), Josh
Wimble (Albans, VT) and Nina Bass
(Trumbull, CT) teamed up to cross the finish line in fourth
(6:38.133) and wrap up the day's competition for the Engineers. On
Sunday, the second varsity four competed at the New England Fours
Championships. The team of Greg Hesler
(Glastonbury, CT), Jack Sternal (Westfield, NJ),
Tim Navien (Haverhill, MA), Marshal
Bernklow (Devens, MA) and Eileen
Gribouski (Sutton, MA) placed third in their heat to earn
a spot in the grand finals. The four went on to earn sixth place
with a time of 7:25.39. Men’s Crew is scheduled to compete at
the ECAC Championships on Saturday and Sunday on Lake
Quinsigamond.
Women’s Crew
Women’s Crew competed at the New England Fours Championships Sunday afternoon on Lake Quinsigamond. Each WPI squad placed in their respective heats to earn a spot in the grand finals. The varsity four rowed an outstanding race, bringing home the silver medal to WPI. Amanda Ruksznis (Sidney, ME), Kyla Bye-Nagel (Hanau, Germany), Bridget Stevens (Cropseyville, NY), Katie Siering (Sheridan, OR) and Allison DiNitto (Wakefield, MA) combined to post a time of 7:35.30 over the 2000 meter course. The second varsity four of Laura Rockett (Pembroke, MA), Stephanie Kavrakis (Long Beach, NY), Simone Staley (Albany, NY), Chelsea Brown (Utica, NY) and Penny Gikas (North Andover, MA) registered a 7:58.13 to place fourth at the meet. Women’s Crew is slated to compete at next week’s ECAC Championships on Lake Quinsigamond.
