WPI Wrestling 34, Western New England 15
Springfield, MA – Adam Kreitman (Salem, NH) and Josh Rodden (Sabina, MA) both registered pins as WPI won the final four matches en route to a 24-15 road victory at Western New England on Saturday afternoon. The Engineers won their first match of the season in five tries while WNEC dips to 2-8-1.
WPI held a 16-15 advantage before Larry Loomis
(Plainfield, CT) won by 9-6 decision at 174 pounds. Kreitman then
notched a first period pin at 184 and Michael
Kennedy (Ringwood, NJ) collected a 11-9 decision at 197.
Rodden, who was wrestling for the first time this season after
completing a standout football campaign for the Engineers, pinned
his heavyweight opponent late in the third period.
Early in the match, WPI took three of the first matches including
a major decision from Rowan Walsh (Wilmington,
MA), wrestling up at 149 pounds, and forfeits at 125 and 141.
WPI returns to action on Wednesday with a 7pm match at Bridgewater
State. The Golden Bears are off until a week from Sunday when they
participate in the Plymouth State Invitational.
