Five Pins Helps Earn Spilt in Double-Dual at Roger Williams

Bristol, RI --- Five different WPI wrestlers notched pins to help the Engineers defeat Bryant 30-6 in college wrestling action on Wednesday evening. Earlier in the night, the Crimson and Gray dropped a 38-3 decision to NEWA foe and host Roger Williams.
125-pounder Carl Anderson (Billerica, MA) was WPI's only double winner on the night. The sophomore, who is ranked sixth in New England, ups his record to 18-12 on the season.
Others winners by pin for the Crimson and Gray versus Bryant included Jeff Root (Milford, CT) at 141, Tyler Howe (Danbury, CT) at 157, Joe Vanni (Hamilton, MA) at 174 and John Gikas (North Andover, MA) at 197. Howe, the sixth ranked wrestler at 157, dropped a tough 4-3 decision in a bout versus Roger Williams that featured two ranked NEWA grapplers.
WPI is off until the NEWA Championships, which will be hosted by Southern Maine on Saturday February 23rd and Sunday, February 24th.
