Wrestling Places 10th at NEWA Duals at Roger Williams

Bristol, RI --- The WPI Wrestling team notched a 1-2 record en route to finishing 10th at the NEWA Duals hosted by Roger Williams on Sunday afternoon.  The Engineers picked up a 22-15 win over Norwich and dropped decisions to Southern Maine (42-6) and Plymouth (30-18). 

Johnson & Wales finished first at the event, compiling a 4-0 record.

184 pound senior Larry Loomis (Plainfield, CT) recorded three wins on the afternoon including a pin in a 22-15 win over Norwich.  Sophomore Tyler Howe (Danbury, CT) was a double winner at 157 pounds, including a pin while freshman Alex LaBeef (Pomfret, CT) picked up two wins at 141 pounds, including a pin.

Other winners on the afternoon included sophomore Joe Vanni (Hamilton, MA) at 174 pounds, senior Matt Wainwright (North Attleboro, MA) at 149, senior Scott Guzman (Acton, ME) at 197 and heavyweight sophomore Anthony Corbo (Port Washington, NY).

WPI Wrestling, now 7-6 on the season, will return to the mat on Saturday, January 24th when they travel to Wesleyan for a match beginning at 5pm.
