Worcester, MA --- Seniors Anthony Corbo (Port Washington, NY), Tyler Howe (Danbury, CT) and David Cardenas (Framingham, MA) all tallied victories in their final home match to spark WPI to a 27-16 win over Norwich in a New England Wrestling Association (NEWA) match on Thursday evening. The Engineers have won two straight contests to close out the dual meet season with a 3-12 mark while Norwich slips to 2-12 overall.

WPI jumped out of the gates quickly to a 12-0 lead as Corbo and Mike Perruccio (Pelham, NH) scored wins by decision at heavyweight and 133 pounds respectively, sandwiched around a Brian Jennings (Danbury, CT) forfeit victory at 125.

The Cadets climbed back into the match with back-to-back wins. Nick Monaco (Nassau, NY) claimed a 13-4 major decision at 141 pounds before Evan Poole (West Milford, NJ) pitched a 6-0 shutout at 149 to close the gap to 12-7.

Howe got WPI back on the board with a first period pin at 157 pounds. Ranked sixth in New England, the senior captain notched his 11th pin to improve to 18-6 on the season.

After Cody Griswold (New Milford, CT) rallied for a late 4-3 victory for Norwich at 165, WPI secured the victory with wins in the next two bouts. Alex Freilich (Worcester, MA) pinned his opponent at 174 at 4:52 before Cardenas ended his home career with a 10-4 triumph at 184.

Henry Marley (Kingston, NY) closed out the night with a second period pin for the visitors.

Howe, Cardenas, Corbo, Joe Vanni (Hamilton, MA) and Kenny Adams (Wilmington, MA) were recognized prior to the start of the match as part of Senior Night festivities.

Both teams turn their attention to next week's New England Championships. The two-day, 14-team event begins Saturday, February 26th and will be hosted by Trinity.
