January 27, 2012 Scheduled Announced for Saturday's Tri-Meet with Southern Maine and Plymouth State Worcester, MA --- WPI Wrestling will host a tri-meet with Southern Maine and Plymouth State on Saturday at historic Alumni Gym. The meet begins at noon when the Huskies of Southern Maine takes on the Panthers of Plymouth State. Host WPI sees its first action in the middle match (around a 2pm start) versus Plymouth State and wraps up the day against Southern Maine (approximately at 4pm). Learn more...

January 13, 2012 | Wrestling to Host Alumni Event at Part of 50th Anniversary Season on February 4th. Worcester, MA --- WPI wrestling coach Steve Hall announced recently an alumni event scheduled for Saturday, February 4th. The festivities will help celebrate the 50th anniversary of wrestling as a varsity sport at WPI and highlight all memories of historic Alumni Gym. The event begins with WPI hosting NEWA rival Bridgewater State at 5pm followed by an Alumni event at Northworks in Worcester. January 11, 2012 | Wrestling Opens 2012 Schedule with Loss at Rhode Island College Providence, RI- Sophomore Alex Freilich recorded a pin at 174 pounds to highlight WPI's 31-12 loss to Rhode Island College at The Murray Center on Wednesday night in New England Wrestling Association (NEWA) action. Other winners for WPI included decisions for freshman Andrew Tanner at 149 pounds and sophomore Mike Perruccio at 141 pounds. WPI is back in action Saturday with a tri-match at Coast Guard with Western New England. >>
January 10, 2012 | Tanner Joins NEWA Rankings to give Engineers Five Ranked Wrestlers Freshman Andrew Tanner cracked the New England Wrestling Assocation's (NEWA) individual regional rankings, giving WPI five ranked wrestlers for the first time this season. Tanner was ranked eighth in the 149-pound weight class. The four other ranked wreslters remained at the same spot from the last ranking in mid-December. They include Alex Freilich - fourth at 174 pounds, Tyler Tilbe - fifth at 133 pounds, Zach Hartzell - fifth at 157 pounds and Mike Perruccio - eighth at 141 pounds. >>
December 14, 2011 | TELEGRAM NOTEBOOK: Four Wrestlers Ranked in the NEWA Four WPI wrestlers are ranked in the New England Wrestling Association (NEWA) individual rankings: Alex Freilich of Worcester/St. John’s, fourth, 174 pounds; Tyler Tilbe, fifth, 133; Zach Hartzell, fifth, 157; and Mike Perruccio, eighth, 141. It marks the first time under second year head coach Steve Hall that the Engineers have placed four wrestlers in the New England rankings. >>
December 10, 2011 | Wrestling Opens Quad with Thrilling 23-18 Victory over Host Williams Williamstown, MA --- Sophomore Mike Perruccioe arned a 3-2 decision in a winner-take-all bout at 141 pounds to help WPI post a exciting 23-18 victory over host Williams in a quad match on Saturday afternoon. The Engineers wrapped up competition at the highly competitive quad with a 38-3 loss to Johnson & Wales, the top ranked team in New England, and a 24-15 defeat to New York power Oneonta State. >>
December 7, 2011 | Wrestling Opens Dual-Meet Season with Loss to Regional Power Springfield Worcester, MA --- Freshman Tyler Tilbe and Teddy Kostopoulos each picked up wins for WPI as the Engineers opened the dual meet season with a 40-6 loss to second-ranked Springfield on Wednesday evening. The match was the home opener of the 50th anniversary season of WPI Wrestling and saw the Crimson and Gray christen a new wrestling mat. WPI is back on the mat on Saturday in a quad match at Williams that includes Johnson & Wales and Oneonta State. >>
December 5, 2011 | Hartzell Tabbed NEWA Rookie of the Week Worcester, MA - WPI freshman wrestler Zach Hartzell has been named New England Wrestling Association (NEWA) Rookie of the Week for the week ending Sunday, December 4th. Hartzell won all three of his matches on Saturday en route to winning the 157-pound weight class at the Ted Reese Invitational hosted by Southern Maine. He began with a pin of his quarterfinal opponent from NYU before defeating a pair of New England-ranked wrestlers including a 14-5 major decision over the fifth-ranked New England wrestler from Plymouth State. >>
December 5, 2011 | WPI Weekly Athletics Update #13 Women's Swimming and Diving's Sonja Kent and Alana Aubin along with Wrestling's Zach Hartzell have been named WPI Athletes of the Week. Kent and Aubin were on the record-breaking 400-yard and 800-yard freestyle relay teams while each set three individual standards for the Crimson and Gray at the Wesleyan Invitational. Hartzell claimed an individual title at the Ted Reese Invitational in the 157-pound weight class which included a win over a regionally ranked opponent. >>
December 3, 2011 | Hartzell Strikes Gold for Wrestling at Ted Reese Invitational Gorham, ME --- Freshman Zach Hartzell captured the championship in the 157-pound class to highlight the WPI wrestling team’s performance at the Ted Reese Invitational hosted by Southern Maine on Saturday. Hartzell’s title was the first individual crown won by an Engineer since Carl Anderson was victorious at the 2009 Red Dragon Invitational and helped spearhead a Crimson and Gray effort that resulted in a fifth place team showing. WPI totaled 60 points in the meet that was won by Trinity. >>
