Novice Eight Wins As Women's Crew Opens Up 2009 Season

Worcester, MA --- Women's Crew rowed its first races of the 2009 season competing against Wesleyan, Colby, and Smith on Saturday morning. 

The Varsity Eight of Simone Staley (Albany, NY), Katie Siering (Sheridan, OR), Cate Simoneau (Greenwich, NY), Suzanna Kelley (Attleboro, MA), Bridget Stevens (Cropseyville, NY), Steph Kavrakis (Long Beach, NY), Victoria Stutz (Trumbull, CT), Mary Helser (Glastonbury, CT) and cox Brianna Ledwith (Jericho, VT), who were rowing for rights to the Class of 2003 Cup, took home fourth (7:42.67) while the Wesleyan squad took home the cup instead.

The Novice Eight of Juliana Wakeman (Saratoga Springs, NY), Kelley, Simoneau, Colyer Sigety (Tampa, FL), Stutz, Caitlin Quinn (Apoa Air Force Base), Hesler, Cailin Folta (Swampscott, MA) and cox Holly Fletcher (Dartmouth, MA) had a great start to the spring, finishing on top with a time of 7:58.64.

Finally, the Varsity Four boat of Siering, Stevens, Kavrakis, Staley and Ledwith registered an 8:41.27 mark to place fourth.

Women's Crew returns on Sunday morning when they compete against Mount Holyoke, Wellesley Bates and Simmons.  The first event is set to begin at 8am.
