May 27, 2014 | Cotta and 11 Others From Women's Rowing Draw ECAC/NIRC Honors Centerville, MA --- The Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) and the National Invitational Rowing Championship (NIRC) Stewards announced this week the 2013-2014 Women’s All-ECAC NIRC teams. Coaches from each member institution selected a deserving student-athlete from their respective crews to be honored.. Senior Brooke Cotta was the honoree selected from the WPI women’s rowing team. May 18, 2014 | Women's Rower Steele Repeats as CoSIDA Academic All-District I Honoree Worcester, MA --- For the second straight year, junior rower Corre Steelehas been named to the Division III Capital One CoSIDA Academic All-District I team as voted upon by the region's Sports Information Directors. The junior was selected to the women’s at-large team, which includes student-athletes from bowling, crew, fencing, field hockey, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, swimming and diving, tennis and water polo, and proceeds to the All-America ballot. Last spring Steele was selected a third team All-America. >>
May 11, 2014 | Women's Rowing Wraps up 2014 Season at ECAC National Invitational Worcester, MA --- WPI women’s rowing closed out its 2014 spring campaign Sunday in the ECAC National Invitational on Lake Quinsigamond. The regatta is perhaps the strongest in Division III with all 10 of the CRCA/USRowing Coaches Poll top 10 varsity eights in the water on Sunday. The varsity eight finished fourth in its morning heat (7:04.936) before coming back in the afternoon to cross the finish line fifth (7:23.231) during the petite final. >>
May 3, 2014 | Women's Rowing Enjoys Stellar Afternoon at New England Rowing Championships Worcester, MA --- WPI women’s rowing had a strong afternoon Saturday at the New England Rowing Championships on Lake Quinsigamond. The three Crimson and Gray boats trimmed an average of 15 seconds off their morning heat times during their respective grand and petite finals. The varsity eight placed third in the petite finals behind Tufts and New Hampshire. WPI turned in a time of 7:20.276, better than 15 seconds off its heat time. The second varsity eight held off Colby to capture the petite final with a time of 7:32.123. >>
April 29, 2014 | 49 Spring Student-Athletes Honored As NEWMAC All-Academic Standouts Boston, MA --- WPI saw 49 student-athletes across five spring sports collect NEWMAC All-Academic honors, as announced by the conference office. WPI had three out their five teams reach double-digit selections led by Men’s Track and Field with 15, followed by Women’s Track and Field with 13 and Baseball with 12. With the 49 selections, WPI ranks second in the 10-member conference behind only MIT, which compiled 52. >>
April 20, 2014 | Women's Rowing Posts Trio of Top Three Finishes as Part of Bernie Brown Cup Worcester, MA --- WPI women’s rowing continued its string of competing against strong crews this season when they welcomed two other top 10 teams to Lake Quinsigamond on Easter Sunday morning. The ninth-ranked varsity eight was third behind third-ranked William Smith and eighth-ranked Tufts, who captured the Bernie Brown Cup after the Engineers had held it for three straight years The second varsity was second and the third varsity eight won for the second time this weekend and third time in four races this spring. >>
April 19, 2014 | Women's Rowing Sees 3V Win Again and V8 Place Second at NEWMAC Championships Worcester, MA --- For the second consecutive year WPI’s third varsity eight won its race at the NEWMAC Championships, while the varsity eight and the program as a whole finished second at Saturday’s regatta hosted by on Lake Quinsigamond. April 13, 2014 | Women's Rowing Hosts Star-Studded Regatta on Lake Quinsigamond Worcester, MA --- The WPI women's rowing hosted a regatta Sunday on Lake Quinsigamond that featured three of the top four varsity eight boats in Division III plus the No. 10 and No. 12 ranked crews. Fourth-ranked Trinity defeated top-ranked Wellesley by just 0.26 seconds while third ranked Bates was third, No. 10 WPI fourth and No. 12 Rochester fifth. WPI’s varsity eight hit the finish line in a time of 6:55.78 while the second varsity eight was fifth clocking at time of 7:32.14. April 12, 2014 | Women's Rowing Kicks off Spring Season by Competing in the Donahue Cup Worcester, MA --- The WPI women's rowing program made its 2013 spring debut in Donahue Cup on Saturday, competing against Williams, MIT, Franklin & Marshall and Connecticut College on Lake Quinsigamond. The varsity eight of made up of Corre Steele, Anisa Swei, Maggie Freed, Brooke Cotta, Julie Waddle, Elisabeth Boulanger, Liz Audet, Sandra Garcia-Fine and coxswain Jess Preshaw had a great showing, placing second in a time of 6:46.89. The Engineers were just six seconds off of defending national champion Williams. >>
