WPI 2, Salem State 0

Worcester, MA -- Senior Ashley Maiorano (Southampton, MA) tallied a goal off a feed from Kelly Thompson (Pine Bush, NY) in the 21st minute to help WPI defeat visiting Salem State 2-0 in non-conference women's soccer action on Saturday evening. With the victory, the Engineers are now 3-1 while Salem State dips to 1-1.

Elizabeth Glasson (Worcester, MA) collected three saves while her picking her first collegiate victory and shutout. WPI added an insurance goal when a Salem State miscue gave them an own goal in the 80th minute.

The game, which was delayed 90 minutes due to two separate lighting delays during warm-ups, was a defensive-minded affair which saw both teams muster only five shots.

Both teams return to action with home matches on Tuesday. WPI will host city-rival Worcester State at 7pm while Salem State entertains Johnson & Wales at 4pm.
