Box Score

Worcester, MA -- Meg Gearin (Groton, MA) netted a pair of goals in the final ten minutes as Westfield State rallied to defeat host WPI 2-1 in non-conference women's soccer action on Wednesday evening. With the win, the Owls even their record at 3-3 while WPI drops to 3-4.

Gearin equaled the game for Westfield at 80:02 when she blasted a feed from Erin Lowney (Westport, MA) past the WPI goalkeeper. Just over two minutes later, Gearin gave the Owls the win when her corner kick deflected off several players and crossed the goal line.

The two Westfield State goals capped a flurry of Owl shots after goalkeeper Natalia Araszkiewicz (Framingham, MA) stopped a WPI breakaway with 16 minutes remaining to keep her team within a goal. On the evening, Araszkiewicz turned away six shots.

Kelly Thompson (Pine Bush, NY) gave the Engineers a first half lead when she registered her second goal of the season off a pass from Jocelyn Moody (Bainbridge Island, WA) at 34:03.

Elizabeth Glasson (Worcester, MA) made three saves in net for the Crimson and Gray.

Both teams will open up conference play with matches on Saturday. WPI will travel to Babson for a 1pm NEWMAC contest while Westfield begins MASCAC play with a 6pm home match versus MCLA.
