WPI Women's Soccer Defeats Coast Guard 3-0

(Cambridge, MA) registered a pair of goals and senior co-captain
Kris Nigro (Bristol, CT) added a goal and an
assist as WPI shutout visiting Coast Guard 3-0 in NEWMAC women's
soccer action on Tuesday evening. With the win, the Engineers
secure a bid in the NEWMAC postseason tournament which begins on
Saturday, October 28th.
Nigro broke up a scoreless match when she netted her first goal of
the season off a feed from Liz Tuite (Southampton,
MA) at 56:44. Burg added insurance in the final five minutes when
she scored on a pass from Ashley Maiorano
(Southampton, MA) at 85:19 and then again at 88:11 on an assist off
the foot of Nigro.
Elizabeth Glasson (Worcester, MA) collected four
saves in net for WPI en route to notching her second shutout of the
season. Trish Ohle (Franklin Lakes, NJ) was
steller in net for Coast Guard, making ten saves on the night.
Freshman Katie Kurek (Williamstown, NJ) recorded
four shots on goal for the Bears
With the win, the WPI snaps a four game losing streak and improves
to 6-8-1 overall and 2-5-1 in conference play. The Engineers can
still finish in a three-way tie for seventh and eighth place with
Clark and Mount Holyoke but would hold the tie-breaker over the
Lyons. Coast Guard is now 4-11 on the season and 0-7 in NEWMAC
action. Both teams have two regular season NEWMAC matches
remaining.
Both teams play next on Saturday. WPI will entertain nationally
ranked Wheaton at 4:30pm while Coast Guard plays host to Mount
Holyoke in an 11:30am contest.
