Women's Soccer Defeats Salem State in OT, 2-1

Salem, MA --- Freshman forward Kristen Garza (Kingston, MA) collected the game-winner, off a pass from senior defender Lynn Worobey (Westerly, RI), for the Engineers who won for the third time in their first four games. Despite being outshot by the Lady Vikings, 19-10, including 16-7 in regulation, the Engineers (3-1) ended up making the best of their opportunities.

Garza opened the game's scoring at 29:54 of the first half when she converted an unassisted goal. SSC caught lightening in a bottle with just 4:06 to play in regulation when freshman forward Taylor Orlando (Danvers) scored off a corner kick after being thwarted by sophomore goalkeeper Elizabeth Glasson (Worcester) who deflected a shot over the crossbar that was taken by Orlando just a few seconds prior to her knotting the contest.

The match was played in 95 degree temperatures under sunny skies. The Lady Vikings (0-2) held a 5-4 advantage in corner kicks. SSC's next match will be Tuesday, September 11 when the Lady Vikings travel to Providence , RI to take on the Johnson & Wales University Wildcats in a non-conference match at 4:00 pm.
