Lynn Worobey

Worcester, MA --- WPI women's soccer defender Lynn Worobey has been selected to the ESPN The Magazine All-District I first team by the College Sports Information Directors of America (Co-SIDA).  Last year Worobey was a second team selection as a junior.

Worobey, who now advances to the national ballot, is one of 12 players to be named in the College Division of District I, which is comprised of NCAA Division II and III and NAIA programs in New England, New York and Eastern Canada.

Worobey has earned a 3.97 GPA while majoring in Biomedical Engineering.  This past year she was the lone WPI student to be selected a 2007-08 Goldwater Scholar by the Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship and Excellence in Education Foundation.

In the spring, Worbry was presented with the WPI Poly Club award as top female athlete in the junior class. This past summer, she worked with Dr. Kristen Billiar and Dr. George Pins regarding the design and characterization of collagen fiber-reinforced fibrin gels.

Worobey started in 16 of 17 matches for the Engineers tallying an assist, a goal, and three points. The tri-captain anchored a defense that posted a 7-11 record for head coach Stephanie Carlson in 2007.

Worobey, a native of Westerly RI, is the daughter of Nick and Nancy Worobey. She is involved in a leadership role with several on-campus organizations including the Women's Industry Network, the Student Athletic Advisory Committee, Phi Sigma Sigma Sorority and the NCAA Leadership Development program.
