Kristen Garza Named to the NEWMAC Women's Soccer First Team

Kristen Garza

Babson Park, MA --- WPI freshman women's soccer forward Kristen Garza has been selected to the All-NEWMAC first team following voting by conference coaches on Tuesday. Garza was the only first-year player named to the All-NEWMAC first team.

Garza, a native of Kingston, had a phenomenal rookie campaign as she set new single-season school records in goals (15) and points (33) and tied for the team lead in assists (3). Additionally, Garza finished tied for third in the NEWMAC in goals, third in game winning goals (4) and fifth in the NEWMAC in points.

Garza was instrumental in helping 13th-year head coach Stephanie Carlson's squad finish with a 7-11 record this season. The Engineers earned a berth in the NEWMAC Tournament, before bowing to top-seed Wheaton in the first round.

The Lyons swept the conference awards with Erin Davis named Player of the Year, Melida Alvarez selected Rookie of the Year and Luis Reis taking home Coach of the Year honors.
