Caras and Garza Key Women's Soccer in Shutout at Fitchburg

Fitchburg, MA ---  Kristen Garza's (Kingston, MA) goal in the 67th minute was the difference as visiting WPI dealt Fitchburg State a tough 1-0 setback in non-conference women's soccer action this afternoon at Elliot Field.

Engineer goalkeeper Abaigeal Caras (Essex, MA) was outstanding, recorded 12 saves while posting her second straight shutout.  Garza's goal was her third of the week, four of the season and 19th of the sophomore's career.

Junior goalkeeper Emily Swan (Franklin, MA) recorded one save in the complete game effort for the Falcons.  Freshman Carissa Kennedy (Somerset, MA) paced the FSC offensive attack with six shots on goal.  On the day, Fitchburg State enjoyed a 19-11 edge in shots and a
5-4 advantage in corner kicks. 

WPI (4-2) will host Worcester State on Tuesday at 4pm.  Fitchburg State is back in action on Wednesday as it travels to Newbury College at 3:30pm.
