Willer Posts Seven Saves as Women's Soccer Ties Coast Guard 0-0
New London, CT --- Coast Guard and visting WPI played to a scoreless tie in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) women's soccer game Saturday on Homecoming Weekend in New London.
Coast Guard senior goalkeeper Mary Mills registered her fourth shutout of the season, just one shy of the single-season school record of five set by Joan Pavlish in 2003. It was the ninth career shutout for Mills, who had seven saves in the game.
WPI sophomore Maddie Willer (Penfield, NY) also made seven saves to record her first shutout of the season and fifth of her career for the Engineers who are now 1-6-1 overall and 0-1-1 in conference play.
The Bears snapped an eight-game winless streak in conference play dating back to last season and are now 4-2-1 overall and 0-1-1 in the NEWMAC WPI outshot the Bears 13-8.
WPI has a busy week ahead, hosting Western Connecticut on Tuesday and Wentworth on Thursday before heading to Babson next Saturday.
