Bailey, Kaija and Beauton Score in Women’s Soccer’s Homecoming Game

WORCESTER -- Senior Mari Bailey (North Providence, RI), and freshmen Lauren Kaija (Reading, VT) and Leah Beauton (Colchester, CT), each scored in a 3-0 WPI triumph over Fitchburg State in a non-conference women's soccer match Saturday evening in Alumni Stadium.

The Engineers improve to 4-0 for the third consecutive year while the Falcons slip to 1-2.

Beauton buried a cross from sophomore Kristen McCrea (Weymouth, MA) in the 4th minute as Kaija scored her career first when she sent in a feed from senior Lizzie Rooney (Harvard, MA) at 31:26. Later in the match, senior Megan Hanshaw (Simsbury, CT) setup a header chance for Bailey in the 82nd minute.

The sophomore goalkeeper duo of Mandy St. Germain (Upton, MA) and Lauren Francis (Natick, MA) went untested in their second straight combined clean sheet.

Rookie backstop Sarah Hemmings (Eastham, MA) halted four shots while sophomore Micalea Goldenberg (Douglas, MA) chipped in with a team save.

WPI is on the road Tuesday with a 7pm showdown with Worcester State, the reigning MASCAC champs. Fitchburg State hosts Lesley at 4pm, also on Tuesday.
