Stephanie Carlson, now entering her 15th season, is the only head varsity coach that WPI women's soccer has ever known. She continues to build and strengthen the team through the recruiting of experienced players who want to compete at the Division III level while taking advantage of the educational opportunities WPI has to offer.

In 2008, the Engineers earned Carlson a NEWMAC tournament berth in dramatic fashion, stunning conference unbeaten Babson 2-1 on the road to nab a tournament spot on the final day of conference competition. Carlson now has 97 career wins at WPI.

Arguably, her finest seasons came in 2001 and 2004 when the Engineers reached double-digit totals for victories and qualified for the ECAC Championships.

A native of Worcester, Carlson attended Worcester Academy and Amherst College, where she received a bachelor of arts degree in history while playing for the Lord Jeffs women's soccer team. She was captain during her senior year and was the team's starting defensive stopper. After graduation she served as an assistant at her alma mater while working toward her master's in sports management at the University of Massachusetts Amherst.

Since 1987 she has served in many capacities: assistant athletic director, high school basketball and soccer official, and high school soccer coach. She also spent time as a college soccer assistant at Haverford and Holy Cross. She received her National Soccer Coaches Athletic Association diploma in January 1996, and in 1997 she received her advanced national diploma.
