WPI Volleyball Defeats Simmons 3-0

Worcester, MA -- The WPI volleyball team opened its home season
with a 3-0 victory over visiting Simmons on Tuesday evening. The
Engineers took the match by scores of 30-21, 30-19, 30-18 to up
their record to 3-2. Simmons is now 0-1 on the season.
Nikki Croteau (Wilbraham/MA) lead the way for the Crimson and Gray,
registering a game-high seven kills and seven digs to go along with
three aces. Jennifer Parker (Rochester, MA)
tallied a game-best 21 assists while Katie Bomba
(Chelmsford, MA) paced all players with 14 digs.
WPI used a strong serving game, collecting 19 aces on the evening
including five each from Parker and Becca Mattern
(Rockville, CT). Christina Grant (Mansfield, MA) added four kills
for the Engineers while Yaralia Castillo (Methuen,
MA) and Becca Holmberg (Madison, CT) both
contributed three each.
Kristine Lucas (South Boston, MA) paced Simmons
with four kills while Chel'C Pool (Lubbock, TX)
chipped in with seven assists. Jessica Hambleton
(Methuen, MA) added 12 digs on the evening for the Sharks.
WPI is next in action on Wednesday when they host Mount Ida at 7pm.
Simmons is off until Saturday when they entertain Mount Holyoke in
a 1pm match.
