WPI Volleyball Improves to 4-2 with Win over Mount Ida

Worcester, MA --- Senior setter Jennifer Parker (Rochester, MA) notched 23 assists and eight aces as WPI surprised four-time defending North Athletic Conference champion Mount Ida 3-0. The Engineers took the match by scores of 30-25, 30-28, 30-23 to improve their record to 4-2 while Mount Ida dips to 1-1 season.

After a hard-fought victory in game two, Parker set the tone by scoring the first seven points on her serve to start game three. On the night, Parker registered 15 service points.

Yaralia Castillo (Methuen, MA) paced the WPI attack with seven kills while Kate Woodman (Fairfield, CT) and Nikki Croteau (Wilbraham, MA) tallied six and five kills respectively. Katie Bomba led all players with 17 digs while Castillo and Croteau each recorded 12.

Freshman Lamesha Shackleford (Randolph, MA) topped Mount Ida with five kills on the evening. Amanda Pereira (New Bedford, MA) added 11digs and two aces and Kristyn Biondo (Westport, MA) collected eight assists for the Mustangs.

Both squads will be competing in weekend tournaments. WPI will take on Worcester State on Friday at 5:30pm in the Worcester City Tournament at Assumption. The Engineers will continue play on Saturday with matches versus Clark and Assumption. Mount Ida will be participating in the Plymouth State Tournament with an opening round match scheduled against Newbury on Friday evening.
