WPI Volleyball Drops First NEWMAC Match to Wheaton

Worcester, MA --- Katie Dooley (Carpinteria, CA) tallied nine kills and Liana Merrill (Northwood, NH) and Tonia Smith each added eight as Wheaton College defeated WPI 3-0 in the NEWMAC conference volleyball opener for both teams. The Lyons took the match by scores of 23-30, 30-17, 30-23, 30-19 and improved to 1-7 (1-0 NEWMAC) while WPI falls to 5-5 (0-1 NEWMAC) on the season.
Allison Reichentahl (Cheshire, CT) led all players with 21 digs for Wheaton, while Alexis Leisman (Winchester, MA) chipped in with 17 assists in the victory. Reichentahl and Leisman both deposited four aces as the Lyons rallied after a slow start to impressively capture their first victory of the year.
Yaralia Castillo (Methuen, MA) paced the WPI attack with eight kills and 16 digs while Jennifer Parker (Rochester, MA) distributed a game-high 24 assists. Christina Grant (Mansfield, MA) was also solid for the Engineers, smashing five kills, without an error, in 11 attempts.
WPI hits the court again on Wednesday when they travel to Providence to face Rhode Island College at 7pm. Wheaton returns to actions with a home match on Thursday against Salve Regina.
