WPI Drops to 0-2 in NEWMAC with Loss to Wellsley

Wellesley, MA -- Wellesley Volleyball nabbed its first win of
the season today, with a 3-0 win over Worcester Polytechnic
Institute. The Blue jumped out to an early lead in game one, taking
a 13-4 advantage behind hitting from Lauren
Rasmussen (Bonita, CA), three kills, and Tracy
Waldman (Seattle, WA), four kills.
WPI surged back midway through the game, with a six-point serving
run by Nikki Croteau (Wilbraham, MA), but the
Engineers fell short, 30-18.
Wellesley took control early in game two and never looked back,
handing WPI a 30-9 loss. Waldman once again led the Blue attack,
with four kills.
Sarah Boone (Temescal Valley, CA) and Rasmussen
chipped in three and two, respectively.
Wellesley carried the momentum into game three, sealing the match
with a 30-14 win.
Waldman led all players with nine kills on 13 attempts. Rasmussen
added six kills and four blocks. Wellesley setter Billie
Briones (Sonoma, CA) tallied 24 assists and six digs,
while libero Emily Peters (Temescal Valley, CA)
had a match-high 12 digs.
Croteau led the Engineers with six kills and two aces.
Jennifer Parker (Rochester, MA) added 17
assists.
The win raises Wellesley's record at 1-1 (1-1 in NEWMAC). The
Engineers fall to 5-7 (0-2 NEWMAC).
Wellesley will host Mt. Holyoke on Tuesday evening, September 19
while WPI entertains MIT the same night.
