WPI Volleyball Ends Skid with 3-0 Victory over Becker

Worcester, MA - WPI freshmen Becca Mattern (Rockville, CT) and Becca Holmberg (Madison, CT) each hit at a .500 clip to help the Engineers defeat Becker 3-0 in non-conference volleyball action on Thursday evening. WPI took the match by scores of 30-14, 30-26 and 30-23.
Mattern and senior Yaralia Castillo (Methuen, MA) paced the WPI attack with nine kills each while Holmberg chipped in with eight. Jennifer Parker (Rochester, MA) led all players with 31 assists and Katie Bomba (Chelmsford, MA) and Nikki Croteau (Wilbraham/MA) totaled 20 and 17 digs respectively.
All 14 WPI players saw action on Thursday as the Crimson and Gray snapped a six-game losing streak. Christina Grant (Mansfield, MA) and Kate Woodman (Fairfield, CT) also distinguished themselves as Grant amassed five kills in 11 attempts and Woodman notched four aces and nine digs.
Becker received strong performances from a pair of sophomores. Amber Ramey (Newport, RI) tallied six kills and four assists and Kelly Rossitto (Meriden, CT) contributed nine digs.
Both teams return to the court on Saturday when WPI travels to Framingham State for a quad- match with Newbury and Wentworth while the Hawks travel to UMaine-Farmington for a pair of NAC matches with UMF and Thomas.
