Smith Nips WPI Volleyball 3-0

Northampton, MA --- The Smith Pioneers defeated New England
Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) opponent WPI this
evening 3-0 to improve to 8-10 overall and 4-2 in conference play
while WPI falls to 9-13 overall and 0-6 in NEWMAC competition.
Senior Deb Sasges (Vancouver, British Columbia)
tallied 9 kills with 17 digs for Smith with teammate Ali
Dale (South Deerfield, MA) adding 14 digs. First year
Mikal Minarich (Hobart, IN) dished out 24 assists while
Sara Hoffman (Houston, TX) and Courtney
Parker (Berlin, MD) teamed up for 20 kills and 8 total
blocks.
Freshman Becca Holmberg (Madison, CT) paced the
WPI attack with eight kills while Nikki Croteau
(Wilbraham, MA) added seven. Setter Jennifer
Parker (Rochester, MA) distributed 22 assists for WPI, who
received 20 and 15 digs from Katie Bomba
(Chelmsford, MA) and Croteau respectively.
The Pioneers travel to Eastern Connecticut State on Thursday for a
non-conference match and then to Clark next Tuesday before
returning home October 20-21 to host the sixteen team Volleyball
Hall of Fame Invitational. WPI will entertain Anna Maria in a
non-conference match at 6pm on Friday.
