WPI Defeats Elms 3-0 for Last Home Match

Worcester, MA --- Playing in their final home matches, senior tri-captains Jennifer Parker (Rochester, MA) and Yaralia Castillo (Methuen, MA) helped WPI defeat visiting Elms 3-0 (30-17, 30-24, 30-22) in non-conference volleyball action on Thursday evening. With the win, the Engineers improve to 11-15 while Elms drops to 7-14 on the season.
After WPI scored a point on Elms' opening serve of the match, Parker ripped off seven straight points on her service to help stake the Crimson and Gray to a 8-0 advantage in game one. For the night, Parker registered match-highs of 30 assists and eight aces. Castillo chipped in with 10 kills and nine digs.
WPI freshman Becca Holmberg (Madison, CT) produced nine kills while making just two errors in 16 attempts en route to posting a robust .438 hitting percentage. Sara Gouveia (North Smithfield, RI) and Katie Bomba (Chelmsford, MA) each contributed five kills for the Engineers, who as a team, tallied 19 service aces on the night. Nikki Croteau (Wilbraham, MA) led all players with a match-best 12 digs.
Chie Inoue (Kochi, Japan) paced the Elms attack with four kills and 10 digs. Samantha Sitek (Belchertown, MA) added four kills and seven digs while Kimberly Phillips (Randolph, MA) notched five assists for the Blazers.
Both teams will return to action on Saturday. WPI will travel to Babson for its season finale at 1pm while Elms will host Husson and Maine Maritime on Saturday in a key NAC play date.
