Anchorwomen Blitz WPI Volleyball, 3-0

Worcester, MA—Rhode Island College improved to 6-3 overall
in a 3-0 win over WPI in collegiate women’s volleyball action
on Thursday evening. The Anchorwomen, who opened the season with
two losses, have gone 6-1 since Sept. 8 and have won their last
four matches.
Senior middle blocker Kimiyo Garcia (Riverside,
RI) led RIC with 12 kills, nine digs and five blocks. Sophomore
outside hitter Sharon Corriveau (Coventry, RI)
posted nine kills and a team-high 10 digs. Sophomore middle blocker
Desiree Georges (Woonsocket, RI) logged eight
kills and five blocks. Senior setter Jeanne Rosa
(Milford, CT) handed out 18 assists and registered nine digs.
Senior setter Amy Souza (Tiverton, RI) recorded 12
assists and six digs.
The Engineers were led by Becca Mattern (Vernon,
CT) who had a team-high five kills. Sophomore outside hitter
Becca Holberg (Madison, CT) and senior outside
hitter Kate Woodman (Fairfield, CT) combined for
23 digs while junior Nikki Croteau (Wilbraham, MA)
collected 11 assists and added eight digs.
WPI returns to action on Saturday when they return to NEWMAC play
versus the Blue of Wellesley College at 1 p.m. Rhode Island College
will open up league play on Saturday in a Little East conference
tri-match versus Plymouth State and Eastern Connecticut. Action in
Willimantic, CT is slated to start at noon.
