WPI Volleyball Recognized by AVCA for Academic Excellence

Leo Fahey
Lexington, KY --- The WPI Volleyball team has been recognized by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) for academic excellence during the 2007 season. The team posted a WPI best 3.55 GPA during this past academic year.
The award, which was initiated in the 1992-93 academic year, honors collegiate and high school volleyball teams that displayed excellence in the classroom during the school year by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade-point average on a 4.0 scale or a 4.10 cumulative team GPA on a 5.0 scale. The AVCA honored a record 353 teams in 2007-2008, including an all-time of 62 in NCAA Division III.
The Engineers finished 11-17 in 2008 under first year head coach Leo Fahey. The Crimson and Gray tied for eighth in the highly-competitive NEWMAC, missing the postseason tournament on a tie-breaker. Nikki Croteau (Wilbraham, MA), Christina Grant (Mansfield, MA), Becca Holmberg (Madison, CT), Emily Kreek (Walpole, NH) and Kate Woodman (Fairfield, CT) all distinguished themselves by earning NEWMAC All-Academic accolades.
In addition to WPI, NEWMAC members MIT and Mount Holyoke also
were honored by the AVCA.
