Holmberg Powers Volleyball to 3-1 Win Over Simmons

Worcester, MA --- Becca Holmberg (Madison, CT) hit at an impressive .533 clip to help lift WPI to a 3-1 win over Simmons in non-conference volleyball action on Wednesday evening.  With the victory, the Engineers improve to 2-1 while Simmons starts its season at 0-1.

Holmberg tallied nine kills and made just one error in 15 attempts.  She also added nine digs and two solo blocks on the night.  Joan Porambo (Jim Thorpe, PA) added to the WPI offense with eight kills to go along with 12 digs.

Setters Nikki Croteau (Wilbraham, MA) and Alison Su (Westerly, RI) combined for 24 assists, while Kathryn Bomba (Chelmsford, MA) notched a team-high 14 digs.

Candyce Arena (Brookline, MA) paced the Simmons attack with nine kills while Amanda Weaver (Easton, OH) totaled 22 assists.

WPI will be off until Saturday, when they participate in the Worcester City Tournament hosted by Worcester State.  The Engineers face defending champion Assumption at noon before taking on Clark or Assumption later in the day.  Simmons is also back in action on Saturday, hosting Mount Holyoke in their home opener.  The match is slated for a 1pm start.
