Volleyball Falls in Five Set Match to Framingham State

North Dartmouth, MA --- The WPI Volleyball team dropped a tough 3-2 decision to Framingham State Friday evening in the opening match of the UMass Dartmouth Tournament. The Engineers, who also dropped a five-set match to Worcester State in their last outing, fell to the Rams by game scores of 21-25, 25-22, 25-16, 22-25, 15-10.
Christina Grant (Mansfield, MA) paced the WPI attack with nine kills and six solo blocks. The senior middle hitter registered a .450 hitting percentage with no errors in 20 attempts. Grant also added an assist block.
Becca Holmberg (Madison, CT) tallied a team-highs 10 kills and 28 digs while Kathryn Bomba (Chelmsford, MA) and Joan Porambo (Jim Thorpe, PA) contributed 27 and 20 digs respectively. Nikki Croteau (Wilbraham, MA) chipped in with 22 assists, six service aces and five kills.
WPI, who is now 2-4 on the season, will continue play in the tournament on Saturday. The Crimson and Gray will face host UMass Dartmouth at 10am and Salem State at noon. Framingham State is now 2-3.
