Volleyball Spilts a Pair of Matches at UMass Dartmouth Tournament

North Dartmouth, MA - Junior Becca Mattern (Vernon, CT) was tabbed to the All-Tournament Team as the WPI Volleyball team recorded a 1-1 record in non-conference action at the UMass Dartmouth Invitational on Saturday afternoon.
In their first match of the day, the Engineers fell to host UMass Dartmouth 25-8, 25-18 and 25-13. Mattern led the way for WPI with four kills while Nikki Croteau (Wilbraham, MA) registered a team-best six aces. Senior middle hitter Christina Grant (Mansfield, MA) finished with three solo blocks while teammates Joan Porambo (Jim Thorpe, PA) and Kathryn Bomba (Chelmsford, MA) collected 20 and 19 digs, respectively.
The Crimson and Gray closed out the tournament on a high note with a win over Salem State. The Engineers cruised to a three set victory by scores of 25-16, 25-23 and 25-20. Becca Holmberg (Madison, CT) paced WPI with an impressive .462 hitting percentage and 15 kills while Mattern pitched in with five kills. Porambo notched 28 digs in the win while Croteau dished out 15 assists.
WPI Volleyball is now 3-5 and will travel to Coast Guard on Tuesday for a 7pm match.
