Volleyball Rallies From 2-0 Down to Stun Mount Holyoke

Worcester, MA --- Christina Grant (Mansfield, MA) tallied 10 kills and five solo blocks to help WPI rally from 2-0 deficit to defeat visiting Mount Holyoke 3-2 in NEWMAC volleyball action on Tuesday evening. The Engineers took the match by game scores of 18-25, 16-25, 25-22, 25-11, 15-10.
Grant hit at an impressive .348 clip as she made just two errors in 28 attempts. Setter Nikki Croteau (Wilbraham, MA) shared game-high assists honors with 31 while adding four kills.
Joan Porambo (Jim Thorpe, PA) and Kathryn Bomba (Chelmsford, MA) anchored the Crimson and Gray defensive efforts with 27 and 25 digs respectively while Becca Holmberg (Madison, CT) chipped with 12 digs to go along with 10 kills. Samantha Brown (Dunbarton, NH) aided the comeback with seven kills.
The match was unusual as WPI never trailed during the last three sets after never leading during the opening two stanzas.
Chelsea Tracy (St. Thomas, Virgin Islands) paced the Mount Holyoke attack with 13 kills while Amanda Trask (Brockton, MA) registered nine kills and 24 digs. Kathryne Kuc (New Haven, CT) led the Lyons with 31 assists while Kathryne Schwartz (Ridgewood, NJ) tallied 22 digs and Brenna Shepherd (Pottstown, PA) contributed a pair of solo blocks and an assist block.
WPI returns to the court on Thursday when they host Becker at 7pm. Mount Holyoke is back in action on Saturday, hosting St. Joseph (CT) at 1pm.
