Worcester, MA --- Becca Holmberg (Madison, CT) smashed 14 kills to help spark WPI to a hard-earned 3-0 victory over host Pine Manor in non-conference volleyball action on Thursday evening.  With the win, the Engineers up their record to 6-9 while the Gators slip to 5-5.

WPI, who was forced to rally from large deficits in the final two sets, took the match by scores of 25-16, 26-24 and 29-27.

Nikki Croteau (Wilbraham, MA) aided the Crimson and Gray effort with 25 assists and seven service aces.  Kathryn Bomba (Chelmsford, MA) chipped in with eight kills and 12 digs while Joan Porambo (Jim Thorpe, PA) added a team-best 17 digs.  Holmberg, whose 14 kills were one short of her season-high, also contributed with seven digs.

GNAC blocks leader Amanda Dennis (Haverhill, MA) led the Gators with three solo blocks. 

WPI returns to action on Saturday, hosting Anna Maria and Elms as part of Homecoming Weekend festivities. The tri-match is slated to begin at 11am.  Pine Manor is also back on the court on Saturday. participating in the Salem State Tournament.
