Northampton, MA --- The Pioneers of Smith defeated the Engineers of WPI 3-0 (25-20, 25-15, 25-20). With the victory the Pioneers raised their overall record to 9-11 (3-2). With the loss WPI fell to 8-10 (1-4) on the year. 

For the Pioneers Lauren Martinez (Phoenix, AZ) had 13 assists and 9 digs while Bethany Weiss (Windham, NH) had 6 kills and 2 service aces. Alex Rissi (Scottsdale, AZ) contributed 5 kills.  Additionally, Mikal Minarich (Hobart, IN) had 12 kills and 8 digs. Also contributing for Smith Courtney Parker (Berlin, MD) finished with 6 kills and Brianne Connizzo (Demarest, NJ) with 11 digs.

For WPI, Becca Holmberg (Madison, CT) finished with 8 kills and 1 service ace. Additionally, Nikki Croteau (Wilbraham, MA) contributed 15 assists and 2 service aces.  Joan Porampo (Jim Thorpe, PA) added a game-best 14 digs.

Smith returns to action Thursday as they host valley rival Amherst College for a 7pm start.  WPI is back to the court on Friday at 5pm, hosting Bay Path and Mitchell in a tri-match.
