Holmberg Posts Double-Double in Volleyball loss to UMass Dartmouth

Worcester, MA --- Allie Mastrocola (Swansea, MA) tallied a match-high 14 kills to spark visiting UMass Dartmouth to a 3-0 victory over WPI in non-conference volleyball action on Thursday evening.  The Corsairs won the match by scores of 25-17, 28-26 and 25-18. 

With the result, UMass Dartmouth improves to 12-9 on the season while the Engineers dip to 10-15 overall. 

UMass Dartmouth received 29 assists from setter Melanie Staiger (Bournedale, MA) while Hilary Teichert (Pocasset, MA) chipped in with three solo blocks.  Mastrocola also added to the defensive effort with nine digs on the night. 

Junior Becca Holmberg (Madison, CT) paced the WPI attack with 10 kills and 14 digs.  It marked her sixth double-double of the season and the 11th of her career.  Nikki Croteau (Wilbraham, MA) dished out 24 assists for the Crimson and Gray while Joan Porambo (Jim Thorpe, PA) shared game-best digs honors with Holmberg with 14.  

Becca Mattern (Rockville, CT) and Christina Grant (Mansfield, MA) also hit well for the Engineers, collecting five and four kills respectively.  Grant led all players with four blocks, including two solo. 

WPI is off until Tuesday at 7pm when they cap a three-match home stand by entertaining NEWMAC leader Springfield.  UMass Dartmouth returns home on Saturday at noon when they host Plymouth State and UMass Boston in a key Little East tri-match.
