Volleyball Sweeps Tri-Match with Anna Maria and Daniel Webster

Paxton, MA --- Bailey Sarber (Westerly, RI) smashed 28 kills and recorded 14 digs over two games to lead the WPI women's volleyball team to a pair of victories in a non-conference tri-match on Friday. The Engineers defeated Anna Maria 3-0 (25-14, 25-15, 25-16) in the opening match before taking a 3-0 (25-22, 25-17, 25-14) win over Daniel Webster. With the wins, the Crimson and Gray improve to 14-2 overall on the season.
In the opener versus Anna Maria, Sarber led WPI with an impressive .478 hitting percentage and 11 kills. Setter Alex Rangel (Weston, FL) tallied a game-best 19 assists while sophomore Kim Woodward (Clifton Park, NY) added 12 assists of her own. Becca Holmberg (Madison, CT) paced the Engineers with seven digs.
The Engineers kept their success going in the nightcap with a straight-set victory over Daniel Webster. The first set saw WPI rally from a 19-13 deficit by scoring 12 of the final 15 points.
Sarber was once again the catalyst, blasting a game-high 17 kills and adding eight digs. Kerrin Beovich (Seaford, NY) added eight kills, while Holmberg and Belinda Nwagbara (Santa Rosa, CA) each contributed five kills. Holmberg also chipped in with 10 digs while Nwagbara paced WPI with a .556 hitting percentage.
Rangel once again led the way for the Engineers with 25 assists, while Woodward added 10. Joan Porambo (Jim Thorpe, PA) had a game-best 15 digs for the Crimson and Gray.
Daniel Webster is now 2-3 on the season while Anna Maria is 5-6.
WPI returns to the court on Tuesday when they travel to Wellesley at 7pm. Anna Maria will play at Colby-Sawyer on Wednesday at 7pm, while Daniel Webster returns to action on Saturday October 3rd when they will play a tri-match with Newbury and Elms at Elms beginning at 2pm.
