Roger Williams Deals Volleyball its First Non-Conference Loss

Worcester MA --- Rebekah Dion (Old Saybrook,
CT) tallied eight kills and six blocks to propel visiting Roger
Williams to a 3-1 victory over WPI in non-conference volleyball
action on Thursday evening. With the 25-16, 25-13, 16-25,
25-14 victory, the Hawks improve to 12-8 while the Engineers dip to
17-5.
The Hawks were paced by a balanced offense. Junior Brittany
Sullivan (Nashua, NH)
recorded 10 kills while Kristina Dolan (Glenmont,
NY) contributed eight. Jill Hurd
(Sunapee, NH) added 20 digs while freshman Emily
Lebowitz (Coventry, CT) collected
31 assists in only three games.
Bailey Sarber (Westerly, RI) and Becca
Holmberg (Madison, CT) amassed nine and seven
kills respectively for WPI, who was defeated for the first time in
18 non-conference contests this fall. Kim
Woodward (Clifton Park, NY) and Alex
Rangel (Weston, FL) combined for 17 assists for the hosts
while Joan Porambo (Jim Thorpe, PA) accounted for
26 digs and Sarber totaled 18 digs to go along
with three blocks. Elyssa Dorenfeld (Reading, MA)
distinguished herself with four kills and four digs for the
Engineers.
After a weekend off, WPI returns to action on Tuesday with a 7pm
home conference
match with NEWMAC co-leader MIT. Roger Williams participates
Saturday in the Rhode
Island Division III championships versus Rhode Island College,
Salve Regina and
Johnson & Wales.
