WORCESTER -- Sarah Kwatinetz (Seattle, WA) and Azita Bakhtyari (Andover, MA) were each selected to the All-Tournament team as WPI improved to 3-0 on the young season with a pair of victories Saturday in the Worcester City Tournament hosted by Clark.
WPI opened the day with a 3-0 (25-19, 25-18, 25-21) blanking of Worcester State before shutting out Husson 3-0 (25-18, 25-14, 25-11) in the nightcap. The Engineers were joined at 2-0 on the day by the host Cougars who defeated Husson 3-0 and knocked off Worcester State 3-1.
Against the Worcester State, Amanda Wetmore (Hudson, NH. and Kwatinetz led the Engineers' attack in game one with 13 kills each. Bakhtyari dished out a tournament high 41 assists while senior Victoria Nassar (Atkinson, N.H.) served up two aces and added 21 digs in the victory.
Junior Stephanie Chapin (Hampden, MA) led the Lancers with nine kills and two service aces and senior Allie Nolan (Melrose, MA) dished out 25 assists. Leavens handed out a team high 20 digs while senior Amari King (Lawrence, MA) chipped in with 15 digs of her own.
Versus Husson, Kwatinetz and Casey Hunt (Granby, CT) shared the lead as they both posted eight kills for WPI. Wetmore followed with six kills of her own and junior Colleen Mullins (Andover, MA) trailed with five. Abbie Gilbert (Hopkinton, MA) served up an impressive nine service aces while Mullins and Hunt both added six digs. Bakhtyari came up with 31 assists to propel WPI to victory.
Kate Woods (Charlton, MA) and Grace Power (Bellerose Village, NY) posted four kills each. Hannah Hembrow (Milford, NH) added three kills to go along with her team high 14 assists and three service aces. Freshman Adrienne Beatty (Rochester, N.H.) tallied 10 digs.
WPI opens the home portion of its schedule Tuesday, hosting Wentworth in a 7pm match.
