Leo Fahey enters his third season as head volleyball coach.
Under Fahey's tutelage, the Engineers have posted double-digit wins the last two seasons and have been honored both years by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) for academic excellence. In 2007, the team posted a 3.55 GPA, best among all WPI athletics programs.
Fahey came to WPI after a four-year stint as co-founder, director and coach of the Central Mass Juniors Volleyball club, which featured 12-18 year olds and produced numerous eventual college volleyball players. After a year hiatus, Fahey returned to the program in 2008.
Prior to his tenure at Central Mass Juniors, Fahey coached at Coast Volleyball and Sharks Volleyball club.
For ten years previously, Fahey led the Hudson High School varsity program. He guided the team to undefeated Mid-Wach B championships for the first time in 2001 and 2002. In both seasons, the Hawks reached the Central Mass Division II quarterfinals.
Upon coming to WPI, Fahey said that he was excited about the opportunity to take the reigns of the women's volleyball team. "I feel extremely lucky to be part of a program that stresses both academic and athletic excellence and look forward to working with such talented student-athletes", said Fahey.
"My main goal is to continue the process of building a successful volleyball program that will be able to compete in a very tough NEWMAC conference."
Fahey graduated from Assumption College in 1986 with a degree in Political Science. He played football, basketball, and track scholastically at Hudson High School and now works in the insurance industry. He and his family currently reside in Hudson.
