Mondesir Not to Return as Volleyball Head Coach; Starin Named Interim Head Coach
Worcester, MA --- WPI Director of Athletics Dana L. Harmon announced today that Hardy Mondesir would not be returning as head women’s volleyball coach next season. Mondesir guided the Engineers to a 19-9 record in 2012. Current assistant David Starin has been named interim head coach. Prior to joining the WPI staff in 2012, Starin was the varsity boys coach of Londonderry High School where he led the Lancers to their first appearance in the state championship game in 2011.

Seniors Deliver Volleyball Its First-Ever Win Against Springfield
Worcester, MA --- In the final home match of their collegiate careers, WPI volleyball’s senior class gave its fans a night to remember in a stunning 3-0 win over visiting Springfield on Tuesday night at the Harrington Auditorium, their first win ever over the Pride. Set scores were 25-22, 25-23, 25-14 in favor of the Engineers. WPI is now 18-8 with a 4-4 mark in the NEWMAC standings and, with the victory, secured a spot in next week’s NEWMAC Tournament.

Heartbreak City: Volleyball Drops a Pair of Five-Set Matches at Wesleyan Tri
Middleton, CT --- WPI went the distance twice in volleyball on Saturday afternoon and lost both matches in five sets at a tri-meet hosted by Wesleyan. The Engineers fell to Western New England 25-14, 25-16, 23-25, 18-25, 15-7 before suffering a similar fate to the host Cardinals by a count of 29-27, 22-25, 25-21, 24-26, 15-12. Elyssa Dorenfeld registered a double-double in both matches for the Boynton Hillers.

Balance Effort Helps Volleyball Push Winning Streak to Six
Newton, MA--- The WPI women's volleyball team defeated host Lasell in a three set match on Thursday night falling by scores of 26-24, 25-12, and 25-22. The win moved WPI to 17-6 on the season, while Lasell dropped to 6-21 on the season. Lasell jumped out to an 8-1 and 13-7 lead in the opening set, before a 6-1 run by the visiting Engineers cut the Lasell lead to 14-13. The two teams traded points until WPI took its first lead of the set at 23-22, ultimately winning the set 26-24.

Engineers Run Win Streak to Five with Triumph Over City Foe Clark
Worcester, MA --- Senior classmates Kerrin Beovich and Belinda Nwagbara combined to hit .429 with 25 kills to lift host WPI to a hard-earned 3-1 NEWMAC volleyball victory on Tuesday evening. The Engineers claimed the important conference win by scores 25-18, 25-14, 23-25, 25-18. The Crimson and Gray, winners of five straight matches overall, up their record to 16-6 on the season and 3-4 in conference play. Clark is now 8-12 and 1-6 in NEWMAC action.

Volleyball Runs the Table at St. Joseph’s (LI) Tournament With Pair of Victories
Patchogue, NY --- Elyssa Dorenfeld and Belinda Nwagbara each smacked 13 kills to help WPI defeat Oneonta State 3-1 in a match-up of teams that were previously undefeated in the St. Joseph’s (LI) Invitational on Saturday. The Crimson and Gray claimed the de facto championship match by set scores of 25-15, 13-25, 25-23, 25-23. Earlier in the day WPI blanked Ramapo 3-0 (25-18, 25-19, 25-23) and ends the weekend 4-0 and is now 15-6 on the season. Alyssa Fidanza had 37 assists in both victories.

Volleyball Begins St. Joseph’s (LI) Tournament with Two Wins
Patchogue, NY --- The WPI volleyball team began play Friday evening in the St. Joseph’s (LI) Invitational by posting a pair of 3-0 victories. The Engineers knocked off the host Golden Eagles 28-26, 25-12, 25-15 in the opener before defeating the Beavers of CCNY 25-19, 25-17, 25-17 in the nightcap. With the two wins, WPI is now 13-6 on the season. The Engineers close out play in the tournament with a pair of matches on Saturday. The Crimson and Gray take on Ramapo at 10am and Oneonta State at 2pm.

Volleyball Falls on the Road at NEWMAC Foe MIT
Cambridge, MA --- MIT generated a late rally in the third set to clinch a 25-17, 25-14, 25-23 victory over WPI in a NEWMAC women’s volleyball match on Thursday night. With the win MIT improved to 5-1 in conference play and 20-3 overall. WPI, meanwhile, saw its ledger lower to 2-4 in the NEWMAC and 11-6 on the season. Elyssa Dorenfeld posted 10 kills and nine digs for WPI as Lauren D'Angelo collected 11 digs. Bailey Sarber tacked on nine digs while Belinda Nwagbara contributed six kills.

NEWMAC Thiller: Volleyball Outlasts Smith Behind 18 Kills from Dorenfeld
Northampton, MA --- Senior Elyssa Dorenfeld amassed a game-best 18 kills as WPI rallied from deficits of 1-0 and 2-1 to defeat host Smith 3-2 in an important NEWMAC volleyball match on Tuesday evening. The Engineers took the contests by set scores of 17-25, 27-25, 19-25, 25-21 18-16 to move to 11-5 on the season and 2-3 in conference play. Lauren D'Angelo led all players with 35 digs, Kerrin Boevich added 12 kills and Alex Rangel doled out a match-high 35 assists.

Volleyball Celebrates Parent's Day with 3-0 win over Bridgewater State
Worcester, MA --- Kerrin Beovich totaled nine kills with two big blocks to lead WPI to a 3-0 win over visiting Bridgewater State on Saturday afternoon in non-conference volleyball action. Set scores were 25-23, 25-13, 25-19 in favor of the Crimson and Gray. The Engineers of WPI are now 10-5 while the Bears of Bridgewater drop to 6-6 on the season. Alex Rangel finished with a match-high 32 set assists to go along with six digs.

Top-Ranked Wellesley Survives Volleyball's Upset Bid
Worcester, MA --- Sydney Carfagno totaled 17 kills and 19 digs to lead Wellesley to a 3-1 win over host WPI on Wednesday evening in NEWMAC women’s volleyball action. All four sets were hotly contested, with scores of 25-21, 25-18, 22-25, 25-23. The Blue, who are ranked first in the latest New England Women’s Volleyball Association poll, remain undefeated at 14-0 with a 4-0 record in the NEWMAC while the Engineers drop to 9-5 with a 1-3 mark in the conference standings.
