September 16, 2014 Volleyball Falls in NEWMAC Opener to Red Hot MIT Cambridge, MA --- Behind a match-high 21 digs from sophomore and strong setting by senior Nicole Gagnier that resulted in a .450 hitting percentage, the MIT women’s volleyball team defeated WPI, 25-10, 25-14, 25-13, in the NEWMAC opener for both squads on Tuesday night. Junior Jenny Wallace led WPI with six kills and added six digs while sophomore Shay Feeley compiled 19 assists, five digs, and an ace. Sophomore Cassandra Tomerlin paced the visitors with 12 digs. September 6, 2014 | WPI Captures 2014 Worcester City Volleyball Championship Worcester, MA --- Led by tournament MVP Shay Feeley WPI captured its eighth Worcester City Volleyball Tournament, and second in three years, with a 3-1 (22-25, 25-20, 25-21, 25-16) victory over Worcester State in the eye-opener and a 3-1 (9-25, 25-16, 25-18, 25-22) triumph over Clark in the championship match. The Cougars defeated Becker 3-0 (25-10, 25-15, 25-17) while Worcester State won the consolation match by a 3-0 (25-22, 25-21, 25-22) margin. >>
September 2, 2014 | Bircsak and Klepper's Hitting Helps Push Volleyball Past Anna Maria Paxton, MA --- Sam Bircsak and Brooke Klepper each hit .333 or better as the WPI volleyball team earned a 3-1 (25-23, 25-17, 20-25, 25-13) road victory over host Anna Maria on Tueday night in a non-cpnference match played in the Fuller Activities Center. The loss marks the first on the season for the AMCATS, who fall to 2-1, while the win boosts the Engineers to 3-2. The Engineers took the first two games by scores of 25-23 and 25-17 before the AMCATS rallied for a 25-20 win in the third game. The Engineers sealed the match victory with a 25-13 win in game four. >>
August 30, 2014 | Volleyball Drops Pair of Five-Set Matches at the Regis Invitational Weston, MA --- WPI dropped a pair of hard fought 3-2 matches Saturday during the second day of the Regis College Pride Invite. The Crimson and Gray fell to Gordon (25-18, 26-28, 17-25, 25-21, 18-16) in the semifinals before suffering a setback to Becker (25-20, 13-25, 13-25, 25-18, 15-9) in the consolation round. Despite the pair of losses, the Engineers (2-2) placed third in the six tournament after winning a pair of matches on Friday to claim Pool A. WPI is back in action on Tuesday, traveling to nearby Paxton to face Anna Maria at 7pm. >>
August 29, 2014 | Thrilling Rally Catapults Volleyball into Regis Tournament Semifinals Weston, MA --- The WPI volleyball team rallied from a 2-0 deficit to defeat host Regis and complete a perfect opening day of 2014 Pride Invitational. The Engineers swept Becker 3-0 in its first match and captured the Pool A Tournament. The Crimson and Gray with face Pool B runner-up Gordon in one semifinal while MIT and Regis tangle in the other 10am semifinal. The championship match is slated for 2pm. >>
July 1, 2014 | 2014 Schedules to be Announced Beginning on Tuesday, July 1st Worcester, MA --- The WPI Athletic Department will reveal the 2014 fall schedules over three days beginning on Tuesday, July 1st. Followers of @WPIAthletics on Twitter will be the first to know when each schedule is released. As a teaser, the competition kicks off on Friday, August 29th with three teams in action. Volleyball begins play in the two-day Regis Tournament against Becker (6pm) and the host Pride (8pm) while Women's Soccer squares off with Southern Maine at 6pm in the Gordon Tournament and Men's Soccer meets Worcester State in the City Tournament at 8pm at Clark. >>
January 21, 2014 | Worcester Polytechnic Institute Names Laurie Leshin as its 16th President Worcester, MA --- After a six-month intensive search, the Board of Trustees of Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) has elected Laurie Leshin, PhD, as the university's 16th president. Over the past 20 years, Leshin, a geochemist and space scientist, established herself as both an academic and administrative leader, having cultivated an impressive career at NASA, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Arizona State University (ASU), and University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). Leshin was selected to lead WPI from an initial candidate pool of approximately 200. >>

December 12, 2013 | NEWMAC to Host NCAA Division III Integration Symposium Boston, MA --- The New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) will conduct an NCAA Division III Integration Symposium on Thursday, December 12 at the Boston Marriott Newton Hotel in Newton, Mass. The symposium will bring together key, institutional partners from across the conference in an effort to discuss ways in which NEWMAC member institutions, individually and collectively, might best support the NCAA Division III philosophy that “a student-athlete’s athletics activities are conducted as an integral part of the student-athlete’s overall educational experience.” >>
November 11, 2013 | Volleyball Brings Home its First-Ever Conference Sportsmanship Award Boston, MA --- For the first time in program history, the WPI volleyball team has captured the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Sportsmanship Award for the 2013 season. The announcement was made Monday as the conference revealed its annual post season award winners. The Crimson and Gray finished the 2013 season with a 7-21 record under first-year head coach Greg Poole. The particularly young squad featured just three returners this fall and were led by captains Holly Ganser and Sarah Cook. >>
November 8, 2013 | 34 Fall Student-Athletes Garner NEWMAC All-Academic Recognition Boston, MA --- A total of 34 WPI student-athletes across six fall sports have garnered NEWMAC All-Academic status, as announced by the conference office. Women’s Soccer led WPI with eight nods while Men’s Cross Country led their sport with a conference-best six honorees. Honorees must have met the following criteria: earned a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5/4.0 scale or 4.35/5.0 scale after the 2013 spring semester, achieved second year academic status at his or her institution, and been a member of the varsity team for the entire season. >>
