November 10, 2011 Cook, Close Earn Academic All-NEWMAC for Volleyball Babson Park, MA --- WPI Junior Jocelyn Close and sophomore Sarah Cook were both named to the NEWMAC Volleyball Academic All-Conference team on Wednesday. It is the second time Close has received the award, and the first for Cook. Honorees must have met the following criteria: earned a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5/4.0 scale or 4.35/5.0 scale after the 2011 spring semester, achieved second year academic status at her institution, and been a member of the varsity team for the entire season. October 25, 2011 | Nwagbara Shines in Volleyball's Loss at NEWMAC Rival MIT Cambridge, MA --- In its final home match of the regular season, the MIT women's volleyball team defeated WPI, 25-19, 25-15, 25-23, on Tuesday night. The host Engineers improved to 22-9 on the year and 6-2 in NEWMAC play while the visitors saw their ledger lower to 18-9 overall and 4-4 in conference action. For WPI, Belinda Nwagbara amassed 10 kills, nine digs, and a block while Joan Porambo collected 12 digs. Kerrin Beovich, Bailey Sarber, and Elyssa Dorenfeld each chipped in four kills as Sarber added a block. >>
October 22, 2011 | Woodward Doles Out 47 Assists as Volleyball Splits a Tri-Match Worcester, MA --- Eliza Pyne and Chrissy Gee totaled a combined 42 kills over two matches to help Bates sweep a volleyball tri-match versus host WPI and Salve Regina on Saturday afternoon. The Bobcats took each match by 3-1 scores (25-16, 28-26, 21-25, 25-18 over WPI and 25-21, 25-27, 25-23, 25-21 over Salve Regina) while WPI knocked off Salve Regina 3-0 (29-27, 25-15, 25-16) in the final match of the day. >>
October 21, 2011 | Volleyball to Host Dig Pink Event on Saturday The WPI Volleyball team will be hosting a "Dig Pink" event on Saturday, October 22nd when the Engineers welcome Bates and Salve Regina to Harrington Auditorium for a tri-match beginning at 12:30pm. This fall, thousands of teams from around the country will be participating in The Side-Out Foundation's Dig Pink® National Breast Cancer Awareness Rally. Middle school, high school and college teams will promote breast health education in the community as well as raise funds to further research. >>
October 20, 2011 | Beovich Triggers Volleyball to Early Comebacks in Triumph Over Lasell Worcester, MA --- Kerrin Beovich belted 11 kills and did not make an error in 21 attempts to lead host WPI to a 3-0 victory over Lasell in a non-conference volleyball matchup on Thursday evening. WPI, who took the contest by scores of 25-17, 25-21 and 25-21, pushes its record to 17-7 while the visiting Lasers slipped to 12-16 on the season. The Engineers rattled off 14 of the last 18 points of the opening set to turn a 13-11 deficit into a 25-17 win. Beovich came off the bench to serve the final eight points, including a pair of aces. >>
October 18, 2011 | Volleyball Defeated on the Road at Nationally-Ranked Springfield Springfield, MA --- Senior Lauren Torvi totaled 15 kills at a .560 clip to go along with four blocks to lead the Springfield College women's volleyball team to a three-game sweep of visiting WPI in (NEWMAC) play on Tuesday evening in Blake Arena. The Pride won with game scores of 25-16, 25-12, 25-21.Elyssa Dorenfeld led a strong effort for WPI, filling up the stat line with eight kills, 11 digs and a solo block. Belinda Nwagbaraadded five kills while Holly Ganser collected five kills and three digs. Joan Porambo had a team-high 12 digs. >>
October 15, 2011 | Volleyball Splits Tri-Match with Rhode Island College and Manhattanville Providence, RI --- Junior outside hitter Breanna Boyer (West Greenwich, RI) notched her 1,000th career kill as the Rhode Island College women’s volleyball team picked up a pair of victories over WPI and Manhattanville in a tri-match played at The Murray Center on Saturday. WPI took the other match with a 3-0 victory over Manhattanville. WPI returns to NEWMAC play on Tuesday, heading to nationally-ranked Springfield for a 7pm match. >>
October 13, 2011 | Sizzling Start Sparks Volleyball Past Mount Holyoke Worcester, MA --- Bailey Sarber and Belinda Nwagbara combined for 15 kills without an error and Alex Rangel rattled off seven aces to spark host WPI to an impressive 3-0 triumph over Mount Holyoke in a NEWMAC volleyball contest played on Thursday evening. The Engineers took the match by scores of 25-14, 25-7 25-15 en route to improving to 15-5 on the season and 4-2 in conference play. Mount Holyoke is now 7-10 and 1-5 in NEWMAC action. >>
October 10, 2011 | WPI Weekly Athletics Update #6 Volleyball's Kerrin Beovich and Football's Johny Antonopoulos have been tabbed as WPI Athletes of the Week. Beovich notched double-digit kills in a sweep of Framingham State and Eastern Nazarene on Saturday. The junior narrowly missed a double-double against the Rams as she registered nine digs. Antonopoulos tossed for career-highs of 285 yards and four touchdowns in the 34-27 defeat versus Merchant Marine. >>
October 8, 2011 | Beovich's Big Day Helps Volleyball Sweep Tri-Match Quincy, MA --- The WPI volleyball team improved to 14-5 on the season with a pair of victories Saturday at a tri-match hosted by Eastern Nazarene. The Engineers defeated Framingham State in four sets, 29-27, 17-25, 25-20, 26-24 before sweeping the host Lyons in straight sets 25-13, 25-22, 25-17. The Crimson and Gray looks to keep the momentum rolling when they face Mount Holyoke in a conference match on October 13th at 7pm. >>
October 7, 2011 | Volleyball Toppled by Regionally-Ranked Trinity Hartford, CT --- Danielle Isaman and Hannah Brickley combined for 28 kills and Jennifer Low doled out a game-high 41 assists to help Trinity defeat visiting WPI 3-0 in a non-conference volleyball match-up on Thursday evening. The Bantams, ranked ninth in the latest New England Women's Volleyball Association (NEWVA) Top 15, took the match by scores of 25-18, 25-17, 25-19. Trinity is now 10-3, while WPI, who was playing their second ranked opponent in three days (No. 7 Coast Guard), dips to 12-5. >>
