WPI Cross County Teams Win Tri-State Invitationals

Warwick, RI -- Megan Murphy (Perkasie, PA) and Amanda Learned (Hopkinton, MA) claimed first and second place finishes leading the WPI women's cross country team to its second consecutive first place victory in two weeks at the Tri-State Invitational on Saturday. Murphy completed the 5K course in 19:33.01 while Learned followed closely with a time of 19:45.64. Meghan Woods (Hanover, MA) took a fifth place finish (20:07.25), while Marissa Gray (Stanley, NY) and Catie Casey (Plymouth, MA) rounded out the top 20 with 12th (21:10.76) and 19th (21:45.56) place finishes respectively. Jen Keating (Winchester, MA) finished in 21st place (21:55.24) and Beth Hegarty (Springfield, MA) rounded out the WPI field with a 31st (22:25.43) place finish.

The WPI men's cross country also ran to a first place finish at the Tri-State Invitational in Rhode Island on Saturday. Alex White (Washington, MI) led the way for the Engineers as he completed the 8K course in 26:51.75 to earn a second place finish. Paul Freitas (Walpole, MA) sixth (27:35.55) while Kevin Jillson (East Sandwich, MA) placed tenth with his time of 28:34.43. Nick Worth (Mansfield, MA) and Daniel Duffty (Haverhill, MA) placed 12th (28:30.37) and 13th (28:33.33) respectively with Isaiah Janzen (Sabetha, KS) finishing in 17th (28:58.56) place. Ben Roy (Buxton, ME) also raced strong for WPI, placing 21st in a time of 29:18.23. It marked the second straight week that White won the race and the WPI men took home top honors.

Both cross country teams will participate in Alumni races this homecoming weekend.
